Hi everyone and sorry for asking Basic stuff as Im New to this game.
Ive D/L Tony Hawks American Wasteland PAL and through this site figured out its a WinRAR file (47 parts D/L). extracted the 47 files which include a couple of other files, SNF and one other.
After extracting the file it in a folder in WinRAR PAL-tony.iso
Ive read on here if I open Nero Burning ROM (UDF/ISO) I can drag & drop the folders into the left column at "New Disc".
The problem ,well one of them ,is the WinRAR folder will not open in the right column in Nero but opens another window and at the top file name has (evaluation copy)next to it!.
1) Is this the correct stage I should be at at this point?
The list of files/folders are as below and as I Drag/drop them a message comes on screen after a short time to say "Server Busy" and that it cannot complete as the programme is not responding,it asks me to choose "Switch too" and correct. When I try this it just reappears after a couple of seconds although the files seem to transfer.
I get the following files/folders and where they appear after Drag/Drop.
New Disc ------------------------Name/Size
IOP folder ----------------------IOP folder
Movies folder -------------------Movies folder
Music folder --------------------Music folder
Streams folder ------------------Streams folder
Teasers folder ------------------Teasers folder
DATAP.HED file
DATAP.WAD file
DATAPD.HDP file
DATAPF.HDP file
SLES_535.35
A last file "system.CNF" ive drag/drop before and left out on other occasions but it still doesnt work when burnt.
The file size is 3250MB.
2) What am I doing wrong or right at this point?
Im using RITEK DVD discs that work fine copy to copy and burning at 4x.
Ive tried it 5 x so far but Im obviously Missing something crutial in the process.
The more I read the bigger headache I get!!!!!
They appear! to burn OK but when I put it in my Chipped PS2 it just shows
"THIS DISC CANNOT BE PLAYED"
Please help a Noobie!!!!!!

Chaps,
Been reading other threads and this may be the problem.
I believe Tony Hawks American Wasteland can be played ONLINE so needs a DNA patch thingy.
Is this the problem as to why I cannot get one to burn/work?
Also Ive found a DNA for an "AUS" release on XX XX 00 60 44.
Next question How do I put this DNA patch into the file before burning etc.
Thanks for any advice.

This question gets asked a lot from noobs..

I'll clear it up for you:

If when you've downloaded a game and extracted with winrar you get a load of files like SLES?????, SYSTEM etc, then you've gone too far, go back one step to when you had one big file (even if the icon says it's a rar file - believe me it's not) and burn it on good media (look in my sig or in the link under the image in my sig for good media) and burn it at 4x on 8x capable dvd-r discs.

[edit] And you only need to patch the iso(big file) if you want to play it online.

Thanks for the reply paddymail but!
I tried to burn to Nero Burning ROM (UDF/ISO)and as you said, drag/dropped the 1 folder - WinRAR PAL-tony.iso.
Guess what the PS2 shows on screen after inserting disc "THIS DISC CANNOT BE PLAYED"
What am I doing wrong?
Do you think that the D/L was not complete?
Or is there another likely problem.
Should I D/L DVD Decrypter and try that way?
Cheers.

What modification have you got on your ps2, have you got a modchip or do you use swap magic and a case mod like aftermarket fliptop/slidecard/magic tools or whatever?

paddymail,
Its a V9 PS2 but dont know what mod chip is fitted, apparently its not one of the best but a very good one that I believe you can turn the chip on and off but never tried this or tried to find out what chip is fitted. Had it done about 1 year ago.
Still at aloss of what to next.
Is it worth trying DVD Decrypter/fab dycrypter if I can get a D/L.
Cheers.

Forget using Nero... use DVD Decrypter in iso write mode..and burn at 4x. I just re-read your posts and think you may have been using the wrong program in Nero... Nero has a program called "burn image to disc".. use that one or DVD Decrypter.

Let me know how you get on.

@paddymail

I think maybe Lazyfish did something wrong, if he did everything right and have the final ISO ready to burn, then either Nero Or DVD Decrypter should be fine.

@Lazyfish

How big is the ISO by chance? I haven't have the chance to look/check at the original "Tony Hawk's American Wasteland" to see how big is the ISO (how many GB).

Glad you got it to work now. Unfortunately, I'm in the US and I hardly/never mess around with downloaded games and all. So, I can't tell you how to change the language to English.

Good luck though!!

You're welcome and no problem here, mate.

*NOTE: just for future reference only, if you ever going to rip and burn with DVD Decrypter, then choose the MDS file instead. However, if you're going after the ISO, then yes... Nero alone can burn them flawlessly (either Nero Burning Rom or Nero Express can handle it easily). However, the choice is your, either burn with DVD Decrypter, ImgBurn, Nero Burning Rom or Nero Express.

I recommend you using a DVD+R "Taiyo Yuden" media and have Nero automatically "book type" them into DVD-ROM format, so far DVD-ROM is the most compatible format for PS2 games burning. However, that is... if your burner is capable of "book typing" only. Nero will support most of Sony, Lite-On, BenQ, and LG.

On the other hand, DVD Decrypter does support those burners too, but you'll have to change the book type in the settings every single burn, unlike Nero, once you set the book typing to "automatic" then it will store in Nero's driver and automatically change the book type for you in prior to the burning process.

Good luck!!

Yeah, glad you got it to work in the end... I thought it was something simple you were doing wrong.. :)

You found out a good reason there why I don't download games.. they can so often have problems like wrong language, wrong video settings etc. It's easier to just have a backup copy from an original.

happy new year
