If I am already paying the 50 bucks for 12 months of xbox live for my regular xbox will my account work for my 360 as well?

Yep! you just have to migrate your live account to your xbox 360.
It's pretty simple as long as you know your account settings(last 4 digits of the credit card, name used,gamer tag, etc.)
