I have 3 hdds mounted on top of one-another in my 3.5" mounting bracket, they are pretty close together and when i touch the bracket or one of my hdds it almost burns my hand. I have no side pannels on my comp, 1 case fan (rear) and thats about it. my question is if this is normal and if i shouldn't buy some sort of fan or heat sink.

I have another question some-what related in reguards to how i should have my ide drives assigned as far as which ones should be masters and slaves. I have 2 200gb hdds that i use for the bulk of my storage (isos, movies, mp3, ect.) they are both on my primary channel. and on my secondary i have my DVDRW as my master and my 60gb hdd as my slave, which my 60gb contains windows and most of my program files. I figured this setup is best for transfering between my 200gb hdds and my dvdrw drive, but i'm having second thoughts because it seems as though some of my apps off my 60gb are slow to load, or am i just imagining things?

I have no empty 3.5" bays, i'm also wondering if my 300 watt Allied p/s is sufficient. I have the 3 hdds, the one burner, no floppy, and an ati 9600 pro, is there like a generic algorithim or formula to figure out how much wattage is needed? thnx 4 the help

I went to those sites and they said i needed about 280-300 watts, so looks like im safe there. I oredered a new case yesterday with more room to space my hdds out a little bit more, but now i have another problem. My radeon 9600 pro's fan isn't spinning and that sucker is hot! I just got it off a friend not too long ago and haven't had any problems with it and i never turn off my comp, until today i had these weird thin red lines all over my screen it freaked me out so i turn off my comp and let it cool down, no problems so far. but way isn't my vid card's fan not spinning?

yeah the fan is really stiff. I went down to staples and bought a fan that goes in the pci slot right next to it and it seems that's doing the trick for now anyways. plus i bought a case fan for my hdd problem, i put it in front of the hdds and i took out the 3.5" plastic plates so it's blowing fresh air through them, and they aren't hot any more.

when i tried to switch around my ide ribbons (i'm using cable select) to make my win hdd my primary master i got an error when booting (ntdlr missing), i tried everything i could think of short of a format/reinstall, and still couldn't get it to boot. but i talked to my buddy who knows a lot more than myself and he said based on my usage of the 4 drives that it really wouldn't offer much of an improvement.

thanks a bunch for the help ddp.

link? and i think i know what your talking about - copying the ntldr and ntdetect.com files, i couldn't make it work for some reason. i had another quick question: 3200 ram is backwards compatible, right? i bought some for my 533 mhz system and i got post beeps, i think it's doa but before i return it i wanted to confirm that it wasn't a compatiblity issue.
