hello ppl. this is my first post

ok i have read some of the posts here at afterdawn. and have learnt that i need dvd decrypter (i know there are others too but i like this one), i also have a dvd burner (details are found here about the burner http://www.meritline.com/benq-dw1655-lightscribe-16x-dvd-burner.html) and then obviously the dvds which i got for a nice price only $25 canadian (details are here http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000246VFC/104-9790181-7742320?v...). i also have a modchip so don't worry about that. now i have the iso and the mds file stored on my computer's harddrive. i have already done the mode>iso>read part. now with the mds and iso file i slected the mds file and told it to burn at 2x. one more thing on the blank dvd it says 1x to 16x. so its not exactly the pack found in the link. so at the end after burning doing all the (mode>iso>write) the ps2 did read it but u know how every ps2 game begins with Playstation 2 written in white the game does not move on.i just have a black screen. so ppl heres the story and i need to know how to fix it. plz any help is greatly appreciated.

If your PS2 console has a modchip, then you shouldn't have any problem playing the backups at all. Ironically, it sounds like a burning issue -- possibly a media issue as well. Try to burn at 4X, sometimes burning too slow like 1X or 2X may causes a playback issues too.

Are those FUJI "made in Japan" by chance? The only FUJI I'll buy is their 8X DVD+R "made in Japan", that's genuine Taiyo Yuden media right there.

On the other hand, if your burner can "book type" or change the "bitsettings", then you may want to try some DVD+R Taiyo Yuden or Maxell (mij by Hitachi) and "book typing" them into DVD-ROM format. DVD-ROM is the most compatible format regardless if it's PS2 games or DVD movies.

Good luck!!

that is exactly wat a friend of mine told me. and i bought one 8x blank dvd yesterday to try it on. the person i had been buying games from used this DVD so i'll try it at 4x. and the DVDs i had before are not from Japan they are from Taiwan. AS for the old modchip question i don't think so. i have been playin newly released baked up games on it with no problem.so now i think i'll try both types of DVDs on 4x and post what happens. thanks for the replies

What's the firmware on your burner? Make sure your burner is always staying on top of firmware for media compatibility, meaning make sure it has the most current firmware. Go here http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_all.php and update your burner to the latest firmware if you don't have it.

Don't quote me on Maxell "made in Taiwan", I don't use them and I've never used them. The only Maxell I recommend is their High Grade media "made in Japan - by Hitachi Corp.) -- other than that, I only use authentic Taiyo Yuden and Verbatim "advanced azo". And yes.... 4X is good, it's one of the most recommendation speed for burning here at AfterDawn. It is arguably the best speed for both dvd movies and PS2 backups burning.

Good luck!!

Glad you got it to work now. Yes indeed, 4X is the best and most recommendation speeds for burning PS2 games. Remember to keep your firmware up-to-date and use high quality media for any of your future PS2 backups.

Good luck!!

@baqir

To make a long story short, "firmware" is like a brain cell that tells your burner where to write, when to write, what's the best strategy to write, etc. In addition, it will enhances the burning performances and media compatibility -- meaning if you update your firmware regularly (or when there's one availabel to the most current), then you shouldn't have to worry about any of the latest blank media.

correct me if I'm wrong but BenQ has SolidBurn -- Intelligent Self-Learning Writing Technology which negates a firmware update. they do not make updates to the firmware, it's supposed to 'learn' as you use it.

BenQ is number 4 in aphabetically, it's in combo with Acer/Benq. What type/model is yours?

your laser is unable to read the data reliably. could be the laser is shot (on its way out) or your media is of low quality or just a bad burn. run a disk quality test on the burnt disk and post the results (use Nero CD/DVD Speed or DvdInfo)

Pick some Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim's from http://www.supermediastore.com KC36330 is a pro modder and alkohol has burned more DVD's than any of us can count. They both mention the need for some quality media, so that's what ya need lol. Plus I dabble in this PS2 backup thing a little too. That's the hat trick, now go get some good media lol.

yea i think thats the problem. but i also think it might be my laser. i had a new one installed last year. but i think i'll first try to use the 8x dvd a good band one. and then burn em at 4x.
