Hi there-

I have a dvd that a friend made for me of a football game and the DVD player wont play the 4th quarter. It will play everything else but the 4th quarter. Would DVD recoding help with this issue? Any advise you can give will be very helpful. Thank you for looking and let me know if you need more info regarding this issue. I look foeward to hearing from you soon.

Sincerely- Doug Ward

P.S. I am using NERO 6 and NERO recode (in case this helps)

You can try to reburn the movie, but if your stand alone won't play it your PC's optical drive might not either. Sounds like your buddy has made either 1 of several or a combonation errors while making his backup.

1. Burned too close to the edge of the disc. Target size should not exceed 4300.
2. Burned too fast. Burning should not exceed 4X.
3. Used media cheap media.

Hi There-

Thanks for your info. The funny thing is that the whole disk does play on my DVD drive in my PC. Just not in my DVD player in the living room. The media he used was a dual layer DVD from Verbatim. Thanks again for your response.

Double Layer...interesting. Maybe it's just a bad copy, you could try to make one yourself, but the quality will not improve. Try the max smoothness setting and deep analysis to maybe iron out those wrinkles, but I don't know if it is possible.

dward,

Does your stand-alone player support DL disks? I haven't burned a DL disk myself, but since my Plextor 716A/UF has an option to change the book type for DL disks, that may be the problem with your stand alone. Then again, not sure if it'd play any of the disk if that's the case ;-)

DVD Decrypter can change the book type for some recorders, as can Nero, but the recorder firmware must support the change ie: Plextor won't allow book type changes to any media but DVD+R/DVD+R DL.

+R media is the only type than can be booktyped, -R is not capable of the change.
