Well, it turns out there wasn't a mod chip in my system after all.

I took it to a man who opened it up and showed me there was nothing in it (for those of you who read my last thread). What's worth is that the same man installed a MARS PRO 815 mod chip in my system, and now I have run into tons of problems.

Firstly, all of my backup burnt games stall at one point or another, freezing on screen and in sound. Sometimes commentary repeats ad nauseum. Secondly, even my original copied games work faultily now; they take very long to load sometimes, and other times work correctly. They stall as well.

I can't tell what to do now. I have wasted so much money, first being ripped off by the man stating there was a mod in my PS2, and now by this mod chip which seems only to have made things worse!

Talk about karma! Maybe I wasn't meant to own this system.

Any advice? What do you think? The man who sold it to me says that maybe it's my laser! But it was working fine before!

Originals now take a while to load. They don't work at all like they used to; sometimes they simply stop loading for a time before resuming.

I am using RIDATA DVD-Rs, burnt at 2x max. The console is a V14 and is virtually brand new!

The man who modded my system says it is my laser as well, but if it is it couldn't be my doing! The system is new.

if your modder didn't install a laser fix then most likely your laser is now on its way out. all V12-V14 require the laser fix, especially modded consoles. even new unmodded can burn a laser out in as little as a few hours of game play.

I returned the PS2 to my modder.

He claims that only V11-12 PS2s require a "laser fix" and that my laser is fine!

He claims that he fixed the problem and that it was related to overheating, but this makes no sense because the system didn't work properly even after being off for hours on end!

Do you think he is mistaken about the laser being functional?

What other possibilities are there?

sounds like he's full of hot air to me and just telling you a story to cover his own ass. it's hard for a man to say "hey buddy, i screwed up and it's all my fault your PS2 isn't working right."
