toshiba console not recognizing itunes

my toshiba m30 notebook has hotkeys on the front to skip between tracks, play/pause and stop. i have been able to get it to work well with WMP for the past 2 years and it's been great.

this xmas i got an ipod, and i'd like to use itunes as my default player.

when i go into toshiba console --> toshiba button controls --> media apps to select the application that i'd like to use the media buttons with, WMP is the only application from the dropbox. What makes this strange is that a "select your application" feature is not available.

Does anybody know how to get this to work with iTunes? I'd rather hit the back, next, play/pause, stop buttons on my laptop instead of having to use my mouse to skip tracks.
