I have purchased a new Lite-On 1635S external burner. I have not successfully burned one disk...have created many coasters..and am frustrated.

I have received several messages...orginally it was...can not perform end of disk-at-once. I have turned this function "off" in my settings hoping that would solve the problem. Didn't. I also updated firmware... I have tried different burning speeds...have tried Sony, Verbatim - R and + R, Memorex +RW disks.

My original burner was a Sony...that died, (I think -- had problems with that burner too..at least I was able to burn with it at first)..and was using My DVD. Have uninstalled MyDVD.

As mentioned above, I have an external burner...connected by USB 1.1 port. This could be the problem...

Have included my log from the last attempt.

Have contact Nero Support..and sent log to them. No word...been several days...

Your help is greatly appreciated.

I see something in your log that can/will cause problems:

You have Nero's INCD packet writing software installed and it conflicts with Nero (go figure that one?). It needs to be completely un-installed using Nero's incd zapper:
http://www.nero.com/nero6/enu/InCD_CleanTool.html
Your memory available was a little low, but shouldn't have caused this problem.
See if removing INCD helps, it needs to go anyway.

Here's hoping MaxBurn can help me out as well? I'm new to this site and hoping that it will be of great help to me. I'v been using DVD Decrypter and DVD shrink for some time now with no problems...until recently. More specifically I can decrypt, it appears to shrink but can't complete the burn? I'm confused and am wondering what I need to change to get over this problem. The last dvd I tried working with was Batman Begins and here's the message I received(see below). This jargon means little to me so I'm hoping you can help?

Thanks in advance!

Tried a burn....still no luck.....I notice these errors...(below)

Have also sent the new complete log...

Any other suggestions....
Thanks again for your help....

Trying to burn pictures/movies of my niece's wedding in San Diego. Want to send to her ASAP. In my previous attempts...the burn goes to about 70%....and can view that in much in the DVD player....the menu's are created...pictdures OK..music OK...but the movie stops just after the ceremony.

@tracker33 -

i've edited out your serial number..

Quote:
Nero API version: 6.6.0.16
- Nero's a couple versions out of date, latest 6.x version is 6.6.0.18, you might want to download "update package 1" from here - http://ww2.nero.com/enu/nero-up.php being as you need to get rid of Nero's InCD anyway (see my last comment)
Quote:
Recorder: <BENQ DVD DUAL DW1610> Version: B8T9
- if you have the "Bulk" Version of this burner (ie if the BenQ brand is not displayed on the tray of the drive) then your burners' firmware's out of date, G8T9, dated 8th Jun 2005, is here - http://www.benq.us/ServiceAndSupport

However if you have the "Retail" Version of this burner (ie if the BenQ brand is displayed on the tray of the drive) then your firmware is up to date.

- 512MB is what i consider the minimum for dvd work. you should get more memory, and for now you're gonna have to dig deep to close down as much as you can to free up more memory

- you're burning too close to outer edge of discs. If you use DVD Shrink, set target size to 4300MB in Shrink's preferences thus avoiding outer edge and not sacrificing much space

- InCD is Nero's 'packet writing software', uninstall Nero then uninstall completely via Nero's Clean Tools, then reinstall Nero WITHOUT installing InCD. As i said further up the reply, you may want to update to 6.6.0.18 (if you have broadband, the update is about 100MB)

Thanks..BigFatBoy.....I tried downloading the updated ASPI....per your suggestion. Got it downloaded...was following instructions on their website....but when I opened the INSTALL.BAT file...the command box would not let me add the "text" they suggested on their website...and when I hit a key...the box closed without any execution.

"Run from the menu, and then the Browse button. Locate the INSTALL.BAT file in the directory the files extracted to and select the OPEN button. In the command box, add a space and either XP32 for Pentium I/II/III/IV processors or XP64 for Itanium processors. The command should look like: c:\adaptec\aspi\install.bat XP32 or c:\adaptec\aspi\install.bat XP64. Then select the OK button to run the XP installer."

As stated above...couldn't add the line...and no OK button. I had sent the wrong log...and the new one shows the INCD gone...

Any other suggestions...

Bigfatboy: Got the ASPI driver updated....instructions on their website were incorrect. You have to open the "aspiinst.exe" file...it updates/extracts itself.

With the update...tried a couple of more burns....failed again....

back to square one.....making more coasters...

Sorry for getting in here late guys, but i was burning some CDs and DVDs and only have one computer now, so i wasn't on the net.
@REEB
Try this ASPI link, your system aspi is corrupted.
Quote:
WinAspi: File 'Wnaspi32.dll': Ver=?.?.?.?, size=30208 bytes, created 6/11/1997 7:01:02 PM
See the ??? in there? It means your system ASPI is still corrupted, and this will cause a failed burn easily, all by itself.
and

Bus Type : default (0) -> ATAPI, detected: ?
in vers 6 this ? is ok only if your burner is external and you stated earlier it was.
The force aspi tool might be a better fix for you.
http://www.afterdawn.com/software/cdr_software/cdr_tools/frcaspi.cfm
Its called force aspi 1.7 and heres part of the description
Quote:
The scripts which make up ForceASPI will automatically detect your operating system and install the appropriate files correctly.
It works when other attempts to fix system ASPI fails.
Everything else looks pretty good in your last log.
This one says force aspi 1.8 but i haven't used it.
http://force_aspi_18.w.interia.pl/
Also Nero has its own aspi and it works fine:
http://www.nero.com/nero6/enu/WNASPI32.DLL.html
or
http://www.nero.com/nero6/enu/NEASPIEN.EXE.html
that one supposed to have instructions with it.
Also, if it hasn't been answered, a USB 1.1 is def not the way to go for DVD burning on an external. It will limit your data transfer rate, and that will limit your burn speed. You should have at least a USB 2, or firewire connection for an external.

MaxBurn....sending my last log....didn't on the previous post..this shows the updated ASPI...might try changing to your other suggestions..but this current one shows "ok"...

Interestingly, the burn always stops at the exact same spot in the creation of the dvd pictures/movie....at 71%. Maybe the problem is with the actual video file. I am trying to burn off of the HD. I tried the rendering/burning...but that was taking 1 1/2 hours..to see if it worked. So...I copied to the HD..and am burning from it which takes about 30 minutes.

No one has addressed this error message below....could that be the problem????

Thanks for your help...

In your last log, i couldn't see anything major that would cause a failed burn. That last error you pointed out comes back as
Quote:
Parameter value invalid
and this is what is stated about that error code
Quote:
These errors are difficult to specify a cause for. Most of the times the problem is in the system.
Before you go changing out things, try different media. Sometimes that is the only problem, and in your case we are getting down to media or drive. I would try different GOOD media first. Your other drive looks like a ROM drive, so we cant use it for burn testing. Maybe you have a bad drive, since you never got a good burn from it. If you get down to replacing the drive, i would go with an internal, as you only have USB 1.1 . Internal drives are easy to install. On my computer it was loosen 2 thumb screws on the case, remove 2 screws holding the drive, remove 2 cables. Install was the reverse of that. Took me all of 10 minutes. You should be able to get a refund on the external, and with that money you can get an internal (they are also usually cheaper than externals) Try different media first.

MaxBurn--- I had MyDvd installed...and had previously used it with a Sony DVD burner which is now defunked. I uninstalled MyDvd per a suggestion that it might be interferring with the Nero.

I could reinstall and try it again...

Any advice here??
