Hey everyone. I've been having a problem I don't understand. I have a v4 PS2 with a Flip Top. When I run ANY of my backups, they are all quite loud during loading sequences. Its like a knocking noise that repeats itself while playing any game I have.

Please don't confuse this with the clicking noise you get from laser misalignment. Only a couple of my games lose music or freeze during gameplay (Trapt, Naruto Hero 2 and 3). All of my games run well except that the PS2 is so loud during loading.

I've played on my friend's modded PS2 and his is relatively quiet while playing/loading games.

Also, if I play PS2 original pressed games, its quiet and works fine.

I was wondering if anyone here has the same problems I do, and if there's anything I can do about it.

I don't think its media, as I use Verbatims and TDK only, and I burn all games at 2.4x with DVD Decrypter. Is the loading of backups on a Fliptop supposed to be relatively loud?

Are you sure the FlipTop is fitted properly? There shouldn't be any tape hanging out, and it should fitted in tightly and securely. If you don't use the FlipTop for originals, it is almost certainly the fliptop that is the problem.

Did your flip-top come with its own white disk? I had to use my original white disk and take out the pre-installed one or else my PS2 would make loud noises whenever i played a game.

To be honest, no the Fliptop is not correctly fitted. I have an 8 screw Playstation and the top did not securely fit. Also I would get the loud clicking noise when I loaded PS2 games.

I changed the white disc at the top when I first got my Fliptop, so I know that isnt the issue. Even when I loaded backups without the Fliptop (by having the system's innards exposed and removing the top of the DVD tray to switch) it would still make a decent amount of noise when playing backups.

Also, my CD takes like 4 to 5 tries before it boots, although my DVD boots first time every time. :(

Is that a defective CD or is Swap Magic THAT picky with v4 systems?

Thanks for the help guys, hopefully I can sort out the problem soon. The loud noises makes it uncomfortable to actually play most games for very long.. espeically RPGs.

Give the laser a clean and see if it makes a difference.
