What is downgrading and Why do so many people want to downgrade and is it neccassary

Downgrading is downgrading your current PSP version to a lower version. The reason people do it is to download home-made programs, aka homebrew. There are several prorgams you can use and emulaters (programs that will trick your psp into thinking its a certain system) for version 1.5. They are only on 1.5 because the security was very easy to bypass. There are games like Doom, all of the gaming counsels (in the emulaters and you download the games called roms for there), AIM, and files that turn your psp into a palmpilet.

There's also a ton more homebrew but thats the basics.

And no, its not necessary, it just makes the PSP really, really fun!
