Hey you guys. I just found an interesting article saying we can rip games from 360-encrypted DVDs, and the system can in fact be booted from custom discs. Not too long before homebrew and pirated games come out.

I have been reading everywhere where you can make a backup of a 360 game.

But I haven't found what software to use? I know they can not be played yet, but I would still like to be able to back my games up for the future.

Can anyone lead me in the right direction to find the "software". or just the name of it, if I had the name, I can find it.

thanks.

There is still a long way to go before unassigned code is able to run on the 360.

As far as software is concerned for making these backups... well it really isnt software at all.

In very simple terms: They have removed the top casing of a dvd reader, placed a very large movie or data disk in the drive, let it spin down within the pc, then removed the disk (without opening the disk drive - hence the top casing being removed)an xbox 360 game is then inserted - through the open casing. Then the disk is copied with software which reads the disk in code (clone cd etc) and the backup is made.

These can not be played as of yet.

EXTRA EXTRA:

you can now boot backups using a modified demo disk

the xbox demo disk for the xbox 360 kiosks are not encoded you can make a copy of this disk to dvd r and it will boot they have also found out that if they take the 360 disk apart and replace the demo .xbx files with ones from real games they can boot the real game

Hi Jono..Did you find that on xbox scene?..

I had a look at the hex and disassembled some of that demo xbe and there's no way that can be done..far calls to disk addresses by sector, near and far jumps to memory addresses after cmp with hash from disk, conditional loops with long_name verification etc...So anything but the files called in the xbe can't run...and simply replacing files will just cause a crash...
That's what I made of the code anyway, maybe I'm wrong, don't think I am but if somebody can prove me wrong please feel free...

thanks for that info clarky

I'll just keep a close eye on the development of future software for now. Don't much feel like taking my drives apart. :)
