Hi to everyone, new to the forum but so far i'm loving it. Lot's of great information for the community of burning.

Unfortunately i'm at work and do not have the log file but once I get home I will edit this post with it. I have read a few other posts which have had similar problems with burning with the Sony DRU-800A and nero. BTW, i'm using the brand MAXELL.

Just some background on what i'm trying to do. I have avi's which I wish to be burned onto a DVD. Here is the process that I have done. I have coverted the avi's to the correct mpg format. Then using ULEAD Movie Factory I created the menus, chapters etc...and exported the VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS folders so they can be used to burn with NERO. When I try to "SIMULATE" (and yes I have tried to burn as well) the process I get an illegal disc error during the lead-in. I get to about 4% of the process when this illegal disc fail happens.

I have even tried to burn without the menus and stuff, using DVD authoring to create the VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS folders and using nero burning ROM to burn straight to DVD. Still can't even get through the simulate process getting the illegal disc error.

A few points:
I have the latest sony firmware KY06.
I have enough memory that this process should not be a problem.
The burner worked when I used CloneDVD for ISO formatted files so I would presume its not a hardware issue.
I also have burnt a few discs using ROXIO DVD BUILDER creating menus in that thought I must say roxio is not very flexible when it comes to that.
I have tried to do this with a few different AVI's getting the same error.
I do not burn to the or even close to the edge of the disc.
DMA is turned on.

One other disturbing this: I tried to do the burn process in ULEAD movie factory thinking that my Nero config was wrong or my burner was not compatible but I got a burn error during the ULEAD proces too! This did not make me feel good.

I have tried ULEAD and NERO now to burn, a couple of different authoring softwares and still have had no luck with the avi's. But like I said I have burnt with this recorder recently using an ISO image so I just have no idea anymore.

I am lost, and out of ideas. I have combed many many forums to see if i'm missing anything but I cannot seem to find the problem. If anyone can help it would be greatly appreciated. If you have any suggestions from reading this great, if you need the logfile I will update the thread as soon as I get home.

Thanks to everyone at Afterdawn.com

hi, presuming you use Nero 6... ...let's have LAST section of your Nero log which lives in c:\program files\ahead\nero\nerohistory.log but DO NOT post your serial number which usually begins with '1A21' or similar.

You can differentiate sections via this section divider "====== *** Nero-Burning Rom, History File *** ======"

- CDRALW2K.SYS is part of Roxio. try uninstalling Roxio (doesn't always play well with Nero), then you might need to fully remove using Roxio Zapper - http://www.microadvantage.net/utilities

for the above, I was doing a simulation so I wouldn't create another coaster but forgot to put in the blank disc needed for a simulation...its just an action not an error...but the roxio thing is probably it, i uninstalled Nero and now i can burn again with other programs WOOT. Next is to uninstall roxio and reinstall Nero. Thanks for your help and the link.
