I'm planning on building a new gaming computer for me. It won't be any SuperDream machine but something I expect to be able use several years by upgrading it. My first step will be just buying a new case and PSU for my old computer and when I do get enough money I'll make a totally new computer into that new case. So I need to know what case and PSU would be good for it. Here is what I think the case and PSU would need to be able to handle eventually:
Dual Grafics cards SLI/CROSSFIRE
AMD X2 4800+
max 3 HDs
max 2 Optical drives
3.5" disc drive
Other requirements would be relative silence. It won't be running while I'm sleeping but during daytime it shouldn't be loud enough to disturb watching TV or listening to radio (my old computer is REAL noisy).
Also washable dust filtters on the air intakes would be nice.
So far the only thing (with cases) I've found (within my budget) is the following:
Thermaltake Soprano + Antec TruePower II 550W PEC (~220? in Finland)
Studio Comp: AMD Athlon XP 3200+ OC ~ 2.35GHz runs at 40 celcius idle and 48 under stress (aerocool GT1000 really works!), Asrock K7VT4A , 1024MB Dual Channel DDR 400, MSI Nvidia FX5200 128MB OC ~ 600MHz mem 350MHz core,80GB SATA + 200GB SATA + 120GB IDE, 7.1 Channel Soundblaster Audigy 2 Platinum EX sound and midi interface. 19" Sony SDM-HS95 TFT monitor - sweeet
Comp2: AMD Sempron 2400+ OC ~ 2.0GHz (Stable), Asrock K7S41GX, 512MB DDR 333, Onboard Graphics, 40GB Maxtor IDE
set of monitors on the way soon :P
Google is your friend... WorkComp: LAPTOP, intel celeron D 2.4GHz, 256MB DDR, 20GB hd. NO SCREEN IT WAS SAWN OFF :S (bag of crap)
If you will be upgrading it in future i would sugest holding fire until the new amd processors that can handle DDR2 are out as i am sure these will be phasing out the standard amd chips eventually.
System 1 :- Main PC: AMD XP 3200+ - OC Slightly 2.31Ghz, 1024 MB DDR PC2700, 1 x 40GB Hard Drive, 1 x 60GB Hard Drive, ATI 9600XT (256 MB)Graphics Card.
Laptop 1: 1GB DDR2 Ram, 100Gb Samsung HDD, ATI X700 128mb Graphics Card.
System 2: Downloading PC: AMD Sempron 2500+, 512 MB DDR PC2700, 1 x 40GB Hard Drive.

very true. theres only one real advantage to not holding out for the new cores and thats if you dont want to have to buy new memory aswell
(which is why im actually going to be buying before the new cores are released)
If your planning on buying new memory though i would definately hold out for the DDR2 cores as there will be a conciderable difference in the overall system performance
