Sorry if this is a repost, couldn't find any info on the subject.
If your gamertag is blocked when you've been caught using a modchip or other mod device, when you connect your 360 to your PC for streaming etc, can Microsoft detect that you are using a 'copy' of Windows XP?
i wouldn't see it being a problem, but i've not tried it, that's why i have a computer w/ TV outs. but i'm sure someone on here must know. sorry i couldn't assist any further.

I do use TV outs, the reason i'm asking though is - if the 360 played MPEG's, I could use it to watch downloaded films at a mates house.

Your gamertag is blocked?? Usually when your unable to connect to xbox live & it gives you the ol your using modified software or hardware message it means your xbox is banned(not your gamertag).
At first you could flash a new eeprom & your back on live. Now you pretty much need to replace the hdd and the eeprom & you can get back on Live. I highly doubt that MS is checking your PC for a ligitimate copy of the OS when you stream content to your xbox 360.

and can this be used to transfer films (mpeg format) onto the HDD?
Yes & Yes ... I've done both. The xbox 360 doesn't support divx or xvid though. You don't really transfer films to your xbox 360 hdd when you use the Windows Media Center Extender.
It streams the content from your PC to your xbox 360.
