Hi, first of all I havn't got a mod-chip yet for my ps2 or I havn't even backed up a ps2 game yet but seen as my kids have ruined 4 of my games in the past few weeks I'm seriously thinking of getting a mod-chip and start backing up :-) I've been experimenting with different ways of backing up a ps2 game but I'm unsure of a few things. First is, when your backing up a ps2 games with the original on a dvd, do you copy that on to a dvd or cd? The way I think is, if the original is on a dvd then burn it to a dvd and if it's on a cd, burn it to a cd? I've tried copying using dvd decrypter, basically the same as copying a dvd movie but when I change it to write mode and navigate to the folder that contains the image and open it, there's two "dvdimage" in there, which do I highlight before burning? Also by using dvd decrypter, will the back up's work 100% when used with a mod-chip.

So regardless of if the original ps2 game is on a dvd or cd, burn it to dvd always? I have Nero 6.6, so basically go to dvd, copy, change the speed to x4 and burn. And that's it. And do the back up's mostly work 100% ? Thanks

Burn DVD games to a dvd
Burn CD games to cd

Use decrypter in iso read mode to extract the image to your harddrive then go to iso write mode and choose the mds file. I also find backups work best when burned at 2X and please use a good brand of media.

Hi, thanks for the reply. Yeah, when I navigate to the folder where the image is extracted to there is two icons in there. There's one icon which is a .rar file which is 1.6 gb in size and the MDS file which is only 4.21 kb in size. Is this right? Thanks

It's cool, I went through the process and selected the MDS file and it burned it to dvd. In certain posts, I'm reading about patching games. Where does this come into things? Thanks 4 the info.

patching comes into play when you want to play a PAL game on an NTSC system or vice versa; patching is also needed to play games online.

So basically if I'm just backing up my own games, ie PAL games on my european system, I won't have to patch at all?

no patching needed unless they're games you play online.

I am trying to rebuild a CD game. So Far I have only rebuilt DVD games. Please can anyone advise what software I need to do this as DVD Decrypter is only suitable for DVD's. Or if there is a guide on this sight I would appreciate the link. Thanks.
I use swapmagic.
