I have a 1633s@1653s it works and burns fine to an extent.

The problems I am having now is that I can?t find TDK TTG02 (TDK 4x DVD-r this has never once burned a coaster or has ever skipped in a PS2) media and now anything I put in my PS2 are always skipping (some skip worst than others and some are minor, but TTG02 are flawless). I have bought so many types of media I don?t think it is the media.

I have TY, Maxell, Verbatim, TDK, Sony ("made in Japan"), pretty much every great brand u can get. I have tried bit-setting with DVD+r=DVD-Rom. and I have come to the conclusion that it is not the media but it is the drive/bios.

I thought about reverting my drive back to a original 1633s but from what I understood the only real difference is that the 1653s burns DVD-R at 16x where as the 1633s burns at 8x, I could be wrong. Can someone explain what the difference is and if it matters if bios is set at 1653s or 1633s?

if you suggest that i change back to the 1633s I have a slight problem I formatted a long while ago and had forgot to take the EPROM from the 1633s and back it up. So I really don?t know what to do in that situation.

if you Pro's here think it doesn?t matter if the drive is a 53s then how to i get the drive to respond to the media like it does with the TDK TTG02, also what is the best firmware for the 53s?

I read somewhere that you can make a drive write as if it was writing on a specific medium, does this mean I can get a TDK TTH04(TDK 16x DVD-r) and make the drive burn it as if it was a TTG02? How would I go about doing this?
