No, you will probably want to use an autoinstaller and, as long as you are going to change the hard drive at the same time you install the chip, the only thing you will need to backup if you want to is your save files. Check out www.xbox-scene.org for imformation on how to get onto xbins for the bios files and dashboard files (autoinstaller).

Thanky ou so much your a life saver. the only next thign i haft to ask is. when isntalling a exectuer 3 ce (( or any any xbox modhcip practically)) you got put those pin head into those pin holes on teh motherboard. well ont eh v1.0 thosxe holes ar efull of sodder. do i haft to desolder those holes or can i just solder on the pin head thingy onto of hte soldered holes and then just put on the chip?

To remove the solder on the v1.0 boards I typically use a desoldering pump or a can of air. They are availible from radioshack and suck (or blow) the solder away from the iron. Sometimes you will have to add some solder to suck the original up. Seeing how it seams like you dont do a lot of soldering...I would use the wire method for the X3 rather than the pin header. Using this method, you would not have to take the chance of buring your board as you can just heat up the solder currently on the board, insert the wire and add some more solder to finish.

Good luck whichever you decide, just remember if you deside to remove the solder to use the pin header...dont leave the iron on the board for more than a few seconds at a time. If the board at anytime feels hot to the touch, should give it a couple of seconds to cool down before trying to desolder some more.
