I know there is a 4gb harddrive available for the PSP, but it costs more than the system itself! Now here comes the stupid question...

Is there a way to use an external harddrive with the psp? I have a 30g mp3 player that I use for storage as well as music. It would be awesome to be able to connect it to my psp and view images/videos/games etc...

I know this sounds stupid but I can't put sh** on a 32mb card.

Thanks

i found a website where someone actually took their mp4 player and got like 20 gb for their psp, but im not sure, the thing about this is that you have a carry a psp and a mp4 connected just to play a homebrew game, and your battery dies much faster. I dont remember the link ;/ sorry

The only thing useful about that idea is that it is portable. It doesnt matter if u have a mp4 player or some HD device that has alot of gig storage. Still the PSP can only read media files from ur memory stick. So it doesnt matter if you have a "portable HD" with 40 gigs, u still cant put it to a good use if ur mem stick is 32MB. Unless someone makes a homebrew that allows the PSP to play media via usb connection then the idea of external HD is pointless. Its the same thing as hooking ur PSP to a laptop.

The PSP currently will not recognize anything beyond the 4GB size. So all those stories are BS.

Thats why Datel has only come out with a 4GB version. People have tested replacing the Microdrive inside the 4GB Datel External Hard Drive for PSP with a 6 GB drive, it doesnt recognize 6 Gb, but when replaced with smaller sizes than the 4 gb it recignized them. Conclusion: PSP doesnt recognize anything beyond 4 GB right now.
You can get it on Ebay for about $170. I bought mine there.

@CrisKahn2 This 4gb hard drive that Datel has, can be connected to the memory stick slot of the PSP, in place of the memory stick.

Even if it could recognize over 4 gigs the major problem would be speed. Even the Datel drive has problems with trying to keep up with the PSP. The data transfer between teh drive and the PSP is not quite as fast as a memory stick with no moving parts. An external hard drive wouldn't be able to keep up the data transfer rate that would be needed for things to run smoothly.
