Well we all heard about the xbox360 overheating, I like to hear your guy's thoughts on how to prevent this sort of thing happening to us while playing for long periods of time, What i'm going to try is buy a laptop cooling pad and try out on the xbox see how affective it is.

no, mine sure doesn't and it's pretty close to a corner in the room with the power supply laying next to the heater :P, the main thing you have to worry about is the hot air in the back of the xbox. Keep an open space, just put your hand back their after playing for a few mins it can get pretty toasty.

As far as keeping it in an open space. I, along with probably almost everyone will have it sitting up on a unit. This will obviously leave little space at the back. Where would you peeps advise it to be kept?

My 360 will be arriving tomorrow and cost me an arm and a leg (pardon the pun) because I am skint. I just can't resist these damn consoles.
Anyway I don't have money to fork out on a water cooling system, is that what every 360 owner is doing/advising?

I hope that you find out if your xbox 360 has problems with overheat or not before the warranty is over. If you find out your xbox 360 has problems with overheat in 3 months later, you really need the Water Cooling System to run the xbox. Plus how about the life of components are being heated. They die soon.
Well, you can send your xbox 360 to MS to fix problems, but it costs more.

Well i know money is tight with all of us, But i'm going to fork over the $59.90 for the 2 year extended warranty. Like all machines they will breakdown. So might aswell get it. Last night when i tried my xbox for the first time i had a big o'l fan pointing down on my xbox and i think i played about 3 hours, for the most part the xbox was pretty cool, but giving out warm air through the back not hot ass hell as some pple say. But the laptop pad i'm going to get it today. I'll post back later.

Surely the power cable shouldn't affect it overheating? I think that's why its located outside the console. Not sure though.

I also dont think its the power cable (dam brick) its the xbox it self, what i have done so far i bought a laptop cooling fan. I have the xbox sitting down on it, it works so far, but i alo have another fan pointing down on it full blast keeps the console cool, but so far no problems yet, i'm trying to rig up another fan so i could put iton the back of the xbox where the heat is coming out from.

I've played it for much longer than I should and it hasn't overheated yet. I think keeping it off of the carpet helps and making sure the vents in the back can clearly blow away from the Xbox. I'm not sure why some are overheating; it may be due to failing internal fans...not much you could do about that without cracking it open. Doubt it could be the power cord.

well i saw something before on water cooling your xbox 360as an add on, basically you send it off to them and they fix it on.

the final design will be smaller. i am getting it as soon as they release it this summer.

Huh?? That is a water system.
I'd like to see an honest non partial review of a water cooled xbox 360 vs air cooled before I plunk any cash for it.

I'm with you on that one. There has yet been no proof that one betters the other. Fair enough for people who get a kick out of modifying a console to make it stand out from the crowd, but i'm only interested in practicality. My 360 hasn't had a single problem yet, or any sign of overheating.

well i had to send mine off and i just got a new one back, i have not had any problems with it yet but when this coller comes out in summer, its should be smaller and my friends getting it too, so i will see how good it works out in his, i mainly want it so that it will make less noise and create less heat which then goes onto making more problems
