All of my games that i've burned work properly, but the first few times i put them in the PS2, they won't boot, I have to reset ALWAYS at least 2 times? Is this the laser, the mod chip or the disc problem? I'm using DUO chip, taiyo yudens. the games all work eventually but don't boot initially

Well, do your original games have this problem? Do original movies and music CDs do this?

If they all do that, it's most likely the chip. Otherwise, it's just the media you're using. Unfortunately, the famous media guide floating around here is kind of wrong about a LOT of things. They want you to believe that what they say is undeniably true. I actually don't buy Taiyo Yudens anymore, as it seems every time I do, I get crappy batches.

If it's your media, consider getting verbatim discs. I, and a lot of people on this forum, find those to be truly awesome DVD+-Rs.

Well just as many people have had success with Taiyo Yuden's. I've talked to a lot more people who have had issues with Verb's than TY's. Good media is the most important part of DVD Burning. I disagree with your statement that the Official Best Media Guide is wrong. It's very helpful and packed with good info. Taiyo Yuden may not work for you, but in general, it's probably the best media on the planet. The quality is unrivaled. It may just be incompatible with your burner or it could be fake. I'm not having a go at you, I'm just curious what you feel is wrong with that particular thread?

@ Weasrock You do realize that you have to reset the Duo2SE once to boot backups, right? What speed are you burning at? Are you using TY DVD+R's or DVD-R's?

Well, I've bought Taiyo Yudens on three separate occasions, from three different places. Each time, it's been a major disappointment. I doubt it's my burner, I have a pretty decent LiteOn drive, and I also have the latest firmware.

I'm not saying it's a bad guide, just that it can be misleading. For whatever reason, my CMC Magnetics discs actually work better than my Sony branded discs.

I don't know, it may be that my PS2 is just finnicky. It only reads DVD+Rs, and that guide is starting to age. Who's to say what DVD-Rs are different from DVD+Rs.

I'll agree that it's good as a general point in a direction, but I don't think it's without it's share of discrepancies.

Well that goes against all norms. CMC Mag media is garbage. I could understand your frustration with the TY's, but if you look around it isn't a very common problem. Unfortunately for whatever reason, your burner/PS2 doesn't like TY's. If you can get by with CMC Mag media, then go for it. What's the media ID on those TY's? Is it TYGxx? Maybe they're fakes. I personally feel Taiyo Yuden is the best media on the planet. I went thru a 100 pack of TYG02 with out a single coaster or boot failure. What version PS2 do you have? Also did you try TY DVD+R's? The main thing I want to stess about your post is that CMC Mag media is not the way to go. Taiyo Yuden's aren't perfect, but they're as close as your gonna get. Noobs reading this, take heed.
