Can't get any of the old Xbox games to play. I have the 360 system with the hard drive, etc. Read all of the tech manuals; seems like the old games should work. Is there something else I need? Will the 360 only play some of the basic Xbox games? If so, is there a list somewhere? Thanks
You might also want to try the "Original XBOX Game Support Patch of December 2005". You have to burn this one to a CD then pop it into your XBOX360. I just downloaded this a minute ago, but haven't tried it yet. I've heard rumors that this might also break your backwards compatibilty (not confirmed):
Break backwards compatibility? Nah. The download works great (I burned it to a disc first) and I've already used it for several of my games. Just check the list first so you know if its one that's currently supported.
So let me ask this, is it only a matter of time before all regular X-Box games are backwards compatible with this disc/patch? I never bought the first x-box but i will definitely get an X360 if that is the case.
They claim they will get along to all of them over time. As best as I understand it, they are trying to do the most popular games first (and any Microsoft specefically developed) and along the way are discovering that some of the other, less popular, titles run by similar methods of emulation. So I would say, yes, they will eventually get 100% backwards compatible because they said that they plan to emulate even newer titles that just came out. As far as when...your guess is as good as mine.
I don't know the split on 360 on-line users vs. stand-alone users, but the 360 is a real disappointment for my son. Granted, he is not a hard-core gamer, but at his age he doesn't need to be. He does, however, have a boatload of original Xbox games he was looking forward to using with the 360's better graphics, according to the 360's pre-release propaganda. PlayStation can really capitalize on the 360's vague if not misleading marketing when they releae the PS3.
First of all b4 pre release MS said backwards compatibility would be for limited games. Everyone keeps saying they lied because they hear sometheing from one person and it spreads. Have u ever played telephone as a kid? obviously along the way the info someone hears gets manipulated. If u did your research u would know they talked about emulation for old games and that not every game would be supported at launch. Second of all the 360 wont give u better graphics on your old xbox games. If u have an hdtv it may look bit better but thats about it.
You?re absolutely right. Microsoft did not lie to anyone about the backward compatibility. We've just taken our own imaginations and did what we wanted with the info given to us. They have always said a few select games and especially classic Xbox games. They've actually been generous with the amount of games they have maid backward compatible. I think if everyone would give the Xbox some time and stop jumping on the Sony bandwagon, they would see this is an awesome system.
This all comes down to being a smart consumer.
Whenever buying electronics of any sort that has a high price tag, do your research, dont take anyones word for it. Even sales people will bend the truth to sell u a product.
Cause in the end u end up buying stuff which doesnt even do what promised.
This is why I am happy with my xbox360, so far for me its done everything it promised and more.
