hello i just bought a external dvd burner. when i connect it. my computer shut off. it also says something about mass storage and to safety remove. how can i fix that? and is that what it the long wait?

When you connect your drive your computer should not shutoff, so am not sure what this is about. As for the safely remove your hardware icon in the tray the only way to get rid of this is to disconnect the drive. This icon shows up for all USB hardware so that you can safely disconnect it when Windows is running, you just can't pull it out it screws up the system.

The message is saying that you have a mass storage device connected to your PC, is there a message about USB1.1 & USB2 - (High speed connectors)?. I suspect that you do not have USB2 connectors, just USB1.1, you may have to update your BIOS to resolve this.

If a BIOS update does not resolve this, you will need to get a USB2 card to fit into one of your PCI slots.

Not sure what this means though;
