Can I use an External DVD drive with the Network adaptor?

I have a chipped ps2 with dms4 lite. I just bought a network adaptor and copied splinter cell (because of the rediculous load times) and here I find out that it isnt compatible with hdd loader. My question is, Can I get an adaptor that will fit into the ide port on the network adaptor? Will it see a dvd drive and load from a dvd in the drive? I figure that I would rather have a 16X dvd drive than a 1X if I cant use the hard drive with all my games. For that matter can I make a master and a slave on the network adaptor? I could have a hard drive and a better optical drive. Thanks

Kool idea, but it wont work, HDD loader wont detect it.
