Well, in most cases, Apropos isn't visible in HjT log :/ So, I can't tell you whether or not you have it.

Please download AproposFix from here:
http://swandog46.geekstogo.com/aproposfix.exe

Save it to your desktop but do NOT run it yet.

Then please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following:
1) Restart your computer
2) After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.
3) Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear
4) Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode.

Once in Safe Mode, please double-click aproposfix.exe and unzip it to the desktop. Open the aproposfix folder on your desktop and run RunThis.bat. Follow the prompts.

When the tool is finished, please reboot back into normal mode, and post a new HijackThis log, along with contents of the log.txt file in the aproposfix folder.

Fair enough, well ... is there anything suspicious in there that you have identified? i am also having trouble booting up in Safe Mode. All of my services it shows seem to load but when it reaches (nearly at least) the end it just stops and stays on that screen [Black with white text showing what is being loaded]

2nd Edit: Just tried booting up in safe mode one last time. the last of the drivers were loaded and it stalled again. After some time it rebooted and started in regular mode. *sigh* This seems serious.

Not much. You can fix these:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [KernelFaultCheck] %systemroot%\system32\dumprep 0 -k
O8 - Extra context menu item: &Search - http://edits.mywebsearch.com/toolbaredits/menusearch.jhtml?p=ZNfox000

Maybe you should re-install windows?

@f3nix:

Aproposfix has succesfully removed aprospos rootkit from your computer :)

Fix with HjT:

R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page = C:\WINDOWS\about.htm
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [uuwm] C:\PROGRA~1\COMMON~1\uuwm\uuwmm.exe

Delete, if found:

C:\PROGRA~1\COMMON~1\==>uuwm<==

Reboot and send a fresh HjT-log

I also scanned the three files that you suggested, and all of them come back as infected with the following:(all results are the same)

AntiVir Found Trojan/Dldr.Agent.am.3
ArcaVir Found nothing
Avast Found Win32:Trojano-2773
AVG Antivirus Found nothing
BitDefender Found nothing
ClamAV Found nothing
Dr.Web Found nothing
F-Prot Antivirus Found nothing
Fortinet Found W32/Dloader.JU-tr
Kaspersky Anti-Virus Found nothing
NOD32 Found a variant of Win32/TrojanDownloader.Agent.AM
Norman Virus Control Found nothing
UNA Found nothing
VBA32 Found Backdoor.xBot.12 (paranoid heuristics) (probable variant)

What can I do to fix this? Are these files that I can delete without causing new problems on my computer? Again, thanks very much for all your help - this is the first "cold" my computer has caught and I was lost!!

Thanks!

@Athene: These lines:

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://red.clientapps.yahoo.com/customize/ie/defaults/sb/sbcydsl/...
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = http://red.clientapps.yahoo.com/customize/ie/defaults/sp/sbcydsl/.

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchURL,(Default) = http://red.clientapps.yahoo.com/customize/ie/defaults/su/sbcydsl/...

have nothing to do with your DSL connection, they're just your browser's default search.

Feel free to left them, if you want.

Aproposfix log looks good

Fix these lines:

O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [msvcrt20] "C:\WINDOWS\system32\msvcrt20.exe"
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [wow32] "C:\WINDOWS\system32\wow32.exe"
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [dssec] "C:\WINDOWS\system32\dssec.exe"

And delete these files

C:\WINDOWS\system32\==>msvcrt20.exe<==
C:\WINDOWS\system32\==>wow32.exe<==
C:\WINDOWS\system32\==>dssec.exe<==

You have also one new line:

O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [msvcrt] "C:\WINDOWS\system32\msvcrt.exe"

Check this file -> C:\WINDOWS\system32\msvcrt.exe in jotti, too. And if results are same as those three files, fix that line and delete file. Delete them in safe mode, if you can't delete them in regular mode.

Reboot and send a fresh HjT-log.

@f3nix: Nice to hear :)

Wait never mind, I finally got to download the file and I ran it in safe mode, though it opened then quickly closed before anything could of happened. So I'm no sure if it DID anything.
That would indicate that you have some kind of adware/spyware component that closes some kinds of anti-spyware app that detects it...It's cleverly written so when it gets detected, it would close certain programs.

In this case, you're infected with the Istbar...

Get rid of these entries:

Well Microsoft's website told me to download a scanner to help my problem, but everytime I press on the site the window closes down. Also I have been trying to download a few mods for my game (TheSims2) and there were certain ones that everytime I opened them, the window would close. The pc is no longer crashing or restarting by itself, but I still have this...
