Hello I'm new here but I was hoping someone could help me. I have an AOPEN DUW 1608/ARR dual layer burner and i wanted to try and copy a movie to a dual layer disc. However it seems that the burner will not copy on the next layer and I get an error message Example( Tried copying Titanic SE with Nero and selected DVD 9 as the format)
Is there a fix or a patch that will enable the my burner to copy on blank 8.5 DVDs?
Thanks in advance

Nero 6 has problems with the layer break, i'm not sure if Nero 7 has addressed this problem. however DVD Decrypter and imgburn can cope with the layer break..

Thanks for the advice I will certainly give it a try. My other question with relation to this issue is that I heard from a few that I have to flash my burner with a firmware download is that necessary for me to be able to burn dual layer movies to blank dual layer discs?
Thanks in advance.

That would depend on whether your burner recognizes the media that you are trying to use. If it recognizes you are fine, if not then the firmware update will more than likely take care of it.
If there is one available for your drive I would recommend flashing. I keep my drives up to date with current firmware and have not experience media that I could not use.
Cheers.

Hi
I tried maiking a 1:1 copy of the constant garderner I have a dual layer burner and dual layer discs and did it with decrypter but it only copied as far as 51% and did not go any further
Can someone tell me why this happened? Do I need to flash my burner in order for it to recognize my blank dual layer disc?

When you flashed your drive, did you use the A110 firmware, and if so, were there any errors....did it complete successfully?
One other thing, you could try Imgburn @ www.imgburn.com I hear that this software works better than Decrypter, and it is also free.
Other than that, I have no clues.
Sorry,
Rich

VADER144,
It looks like a layer break problem. Try to reburn with ImgBurn, that should take care of your problem. So far that is the best software, I found, burning dl layer media.

Hi sytyguy,
The firmware download I used was from the Aopen website for my burner however there was no version labelled A110 the only one that I could find that was recent was one listed as version 1.11 nov 2005 So I think I may have gotten the wrong one however, I have found a site that has my burners A110 firmware update so i will flash the drive with that
Also there was a comment from dr_no about rebuilding the Dual Layer DVD with img burn how do I go about rebuilding as it is a layer break issue?
Thanks again for all the help

I would if I were you, here's how I found it, if you are interested.
http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_search.php
And then cut and paste this AOPEN DUW 1608/ARR into where it says Search, and then click Search, and you should see the results, then click on A110, and it will download.

Rich

Hi sytyguy,
I just had some other questions for you once I've download the firmware a110 patch what does the program do exactly?
And is there a program that would be able to indentify whether after flashing my dual layer burner can write dula layer discs?
When you use decrypter or imgburn how does the second layer of a DL disc get burnt meaning is it one continous burn or does it stop and start again?
Thanks

I guess you will have to go to the manufacturer site to find out.
I have never used Imgburn, so I cannot answer that question, mainly because I have never owned DL discs, until just recently when I ordered 2 boxes of them, but I haven't received them yet.
In Decrypter it looks like you to go Tools===>Settings===>ISO Write Mode, and on the right, select User Specified and put in a number that you feel confortable with. Like I said I currently have never owned any DL discs.

Vader,
It is a continous burn with ImgBurn. I never used DVDDecrypter to burn though so can't answer that.

Hi Dr_no
I'm using Memorex Dual layer discs are there any known problems with that brand? and what is the best for dual layer discs?
My other question is with concerns with imgburn if you were to manually input the sector # where the layer break should be how do you know before hand what number to input?
Thanks

VADER144,
So what software did you finally use, and what parameters did you use, if any?
TIA,

Hi sytyguy,
I used decrypter to make the image file and than imgburn to copy it
and I didn't set any parmeters i had the computer automatically calculate the layer break which is already the default setting.
I used memorex 8.5 double layers worked like a charm that firmware patch did the trick
Thanks again
Ps Did you get you're double layer blanks that you ordered ?If not just go out and buy a box :o)

Good job Vader on your succesful burn.
Those are the steps I use myself.
I am curious though regarding those Mamorex DL media.
Is it possible for you to post a scan of those disks?
I never used nor seen a quality scan of those, hence my request.

Yes, I did, but I am not going to be using them until I get my PVR fully installed and functioning properly, then I will be recording/burning in HD some of my favorite TV shows, such as Lost, 24, Desparate Housewives, and a few others.
Glad you got everything resolved,
Rich

Hi Dr_no
Do you mean a scanned picture of what the discs / packaging looks like? If you're in Canada go to futureshop.ca and in the search bar type in memorex and it will give you a listing of whats available
The DL discs are in a rust colour package
Or try bestbuy.com
otherwise yes I will post a picture of it shortly
