As the rumour begin to slowly mount as to wether the 360 was rushed in release and lost many key components Microsoft annouance an external HD-DVD drive for the 360 that will play only movies not HD-DVD games.

Rumours are now pointing towards a September/October 2006 release for a HD-DVD Xbox 360 pack. It will include as standard an internal HD-DVD drive for movie playback upto 1080i and include the all the rest of the premium bundle (except media remote). Estimated prices range from around £309.99 for this new package. A slight cosmetic change will be and HD-DVD logo engraved into the chrome tray.

But this may cause too much confusion for consumers about which package to purchase so as from December 2006 the Core pack will stop manufacture.

All accesories such as the HDD will continue to be sold for anyone who purchased a core pack between its launch and its end.
