Nero 7.0.1.4 ISO backup/burning issues

I have been trolling these boards for some time now because of repeated problems I have been having burning DVD's, both ISO backups and file compilations. I keep getting the same kind of error, most recently Unspecified Recorder Error, normally after about 5% or so in the burning process. I have noticed that the Write buffer (the one on the bottom of the burnin screen, the smaller one by my burner name) fluctates from 98% to 7% and everything in between, something I'm noticing is a common complaint. I have tried everything I can think of and just about everything I have seen mentioned on this and other forums to fix this, and it still does it.
I have upgraded my software to Nero 7.0.1.4 from 7, and even tried Easy CD/DVD Creator 6 (that kept giving me Parameter is incorrect error)
I have a Lite-On SOW-1635 with the latest firmware (YO5R I think, so something close to that)
I thought it might be Norton, so I uninstalled System Works and put on BitDefender.
I have tried different brands of media, from Imation and Windata to TDK.
DMA is enabled, or so my Primart IDE Channel says. DMACHECK says there is nothing in either DMA channel, but I don't know how to fix it if that is the problem.
I'm kind of at the end of my rope here. I can't think of anything else. I am going to post the latest error log from Nero, hopefully wiser eyes than mine can figure it out. Thanks for any help you all can give.

i tell many people this:"i dont rely on nero".i always hear problems from Nero and its way too complicated.now someone out there will have an exact technological explanation but i can tell you this.burning and reading iso i use DVD Decrypter,burning mpeg2(video file aka .ifo)i use cheetah dvd burner(dl it and you get 45 day trial) try that for now ;)

A) on "DESKTOP" right click on "MY COMPUTER", left click on "PROPERTIES"
B) left click on "HARDWARE", left click on "DEVICE MANAGER"
C) left click on + sign of DVD/CD-ROM Drives
D) double left click on your DVD burner or your dvd-rom drive
E) left click on "DRIVER", left click on "UNINSTALL", you will see a "Warning: you are about to uninstall this device from your system", just click "OK", now "SHUTDOWN" or "restart" your computer
F) once you restart your computer, Windows should automatically detect your DVD burner?s drive and re-install it for you. That's it...easy as smoking!!
NOTE: do these steps only if the above process failed to bring DMA back on, or you can do exactly like the above steps, except this time you "uninstall" it from the ?IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers?
(A) left click on + sign of "IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers"
(B) double left click on either Secondary or Primary IDE Channel (burner's driver are usually "Secondary Channel")
(C) click on "DRIVER", "UNINSTALL", "OK" and then "shutdown" or "restart" your computer. That's it... easy as smoking!!!
***NOTE: you have to know where your "DVD Burner" or "DVD-ROM drive" is installed to what Channel). Usually it's the "Secondary IDE Channel" because your "C: drive or Hard Drive" would be the main aka Primary IDE Channel already. If you're not sure, then you need to check it with "Nero Toolkit" first before you "uninstall" any of them. Once you verify with Nero Toolkit, then you can continue with the above steps.

CMC mag is one of the most hated brands of media here, mostly b/c of it's ability to get around and that it's horrible. Try Taiyo yuden or Verbatim. SOny Fuji and Maxell are good if they are made in japan.

There is not much for nero to work with, can you free up any resources? Norton is a renowned resource whore, that may also be an issue.
Coupled with bad media & too high a burn speed........

I didn't notice this teh first time but...
BIGnewb, do you honestly believe that? there are ppl here who have burned thousands w/o a single prob. I'm only in the hndreds right now but I can say that I haven't had a coaster yet.

i can certainly vouch for Nero Burning Rom being a piece of cake to use. don't know about the other bits of Nero as i don't use them but i see enough posts about them to see the other parts look real easy to use

Nero is rarely the problem, people post logs, which usually point to DMA being off, it identifies bad media, whether your hardware is OK, what burn speed you are using. Nero actually helps people sort the problem out.
Unless it is the new version that is a bit buggy of course!

The only reason you see Nero probs so much is because there are so many ppl who use, because it's one of the best burning software out there. And I've rarly ever see a "clean" Nero log that has a failed burn. Saying Nero is the reason all these people have failed burns is like saying a law is bad becuase too many people break it.

Count me in... I love every Nero applications, actually not all of them, but Nero Recode 2, Nero Digital, Nero Burning Rom (my favorite dvd burning application), Nero Express (for burning music/audio and PS2 games), Nero Vision (my favorite AVI converter), Nero ShowTime (my favorite player) and so far I've never experienced any issues at all whatsoever.
Honestly, I think it's more like an "operator's fault" due to burning too fast, media issues, DMA issues, firmware issues, low memory due to multi-tasking or too many applications are running, Nero's too old, having other horrible applications that's conflicting with Nero (ie Roxio and InCD), etc. However, that's my opinion only.
I know that there are tons of members reported that Nero 7 has a lot of bugs, but to be honest, I've been using Nero 7 as of late October 2005 until now and I've never seen (experienced) any bugs or issues in query to burning. In reality, of course there's got to be at least a few bugs in every programs/applications, not just Nero itself.
In addition, if Nero 7 is the only one with bugs, then how come tons and tons of members are having troubles/issues with Nero 6 Ultra to the bone, especially here at this very section (Nero forum). Seriously, even before I switched to Nero 7 and was using Nero 6 Ultra, I don't have any issues at all, every burns is flawless.
