My QSI dvd drive has been acting very strange lately. It is the oem drive that came in my Averatec laptop. Both the laptop and the drive have been reliable-up to now.
The drive will burn and recognize dvd+rw, but not dvdR+\-. However, the dvdR+\- discs will play in some drives. Most of the time the drive will not recognize newer pressed dvds without some effort. Also, at times, Anydvd will not load.
If you must rip (Personally, I like to collect the trailers), do so from an account without admin status to make it that much harder for malware to crash your drive.
Pirating is not free (or legal). Be careful. How many movies are worth rental fee + blank media + hassle. But, now since I have returned to college, and am offically low-budget with a broken dvd burner, it might be better to download and podcast(lots are free!)!
Has anyone else experienced this when Anydvd fails to load:

You might need to flash your firmware for the drive. This will make the drive more compatible for the newer media types.

@wrocnrob,
I have NEVER seen AnyDVD fail to load. Do you have the "paid" AnyDVD, I mean, did you buy the software from Slysoft? If so, contact them about this. They really are very helpful! It might take a day or 2, but they WILL email you with a reslution or answer to your problem. If you paid for the software, you'll have a license "key". A serial # for YOU. Also, be sure you have the Latest version which is 5.7.3.1

Use The Best Media for The Best Burns! TYs, Verbs,(Made in Taiwan) Sony MIJs (YUDEN000 T02), Sony Made in Taiwan DVD+R 16x, Maxell MIJ, RITEK G05.

I did flash my drive, re-installed, have good quality media, and lot of other stuff. Perhaps the problem lies with just recognizing dvds (somehow).
Anyway I bought AnyDVD just because people talk it up on the forums here. Plus I want to see how it works. I will ask them about it, maybe they will tell me something, and maybe they won't. I posted here because of:

What does any of the above have to do with AnyDVD.

wrocnrob,

What do you mean AnyDVD failed to load? It looked like it did load, if that is the log from AnyDVD.
