I know there have not been many releases yet and so far all launch games were not region encoded however my family in the US are sending a xbox 360 to my son as a gift and I wanted to know if the games in the UK would work on a US xbox 360 or would I have to import from the likes of Amazon.com. I know we need a power convertor and the TV is NTSC compatible it is just the games that are the worry at the minute.

No, Europe games wont work on a North american X360, or vice-versa.

I have a US import of Ridge Racer 6 (not yet out in the UK) and it works fine.

Some games aren't locked to a certain region. Should be able to find out which ones with a google search or possibly xbox.com . I know there are a number of them that are region free.

It is, apparently, up to the developers wether or not they decide to region code the games or not, as microsoft has left it up to them.

Personally, I beleive it can only be a good thing for games not to be region coded.

I mean, if you have the ability to get the consoles/games from a different region, whats wrong with that. The console manufacturers (microsoft in this case) generally dont keep good on warrenty when the hardware is bought out of region, so that'll save them a bit regardless. (Well thats the case with my jap import, white psp anyway).

The psp is region free (for games) so why not just make all games region free since a lot of games nowadays have similar worldwide release dates anyway.....
