Ok first I am not very good with computer stuff.
I have one router and have the old xbox in one room for my kids and the xbox 360 in the living room for the family. Both xbox's are hooked to the one router. The problem is that when both are being played on line they start signing off of xbox live while playing halo 2. Do I need another router? If anyone can help me I would greatly appreciate it. My husband and kids are driving me nuts! my email is delvalle_jr@hotmail.com

Are they using the same Live account on 2 consoles at the same time?
If so, that's probably the problem and you would likely have to set up another Live account to play at the same time or go split screen and play from the same console. There are alternatives to Xbox live like Xbox Connect http://www.xbconnect.com/ where you could use both and it's free.

No they aren't using the same account on both the xboxes. Both the xbox and xbox 360 have separate live accounts. I forgot to mention that while both live accounts (xboxes) are being played I am usually using the internet. We use a broadband connection. Don't know if that matters either.

Sounds like you are just lagging them out. Xbox Live takes a significant bandwidth especially while playing games, eg. Halo 2. Try just letting them play without being on the computer at the same time and see if it still happens. Depending on what kind of broadband you have, you might be able to purchase more bandwidth from them, for more $ of course.

The loading of web pages occasionally shouldn't affect much. If your downloading or uploading large files while they're playing it could slow it down considerably. It still shouldn't kick you off Live.
Routers aren't terribly expensive and you may want to give that a try. You do split your bandwidth in half when they are both playing online through the same connection. If you do get a new router you may want to check on xbox.com for the prefered routers to use with Live.

This happened to me. I had an old linksys router that wasn't live compatible. It worked fine with one account, but if a friend wanted join it lagged one of us out. I bought a new router and it works fine now.
