hi guys, new to this forum.

i use dvd-r disc to burn dvd-iso for my movie/anime collection. (cause it stores a lot more if u burn it to iso than video.) i'm using nero burning rom(tried to use nero express too). but lately, everytime when i got to about 62%, the 'used buffer level'(at the) top drops from 100%, so does the buffer level, to like 10% and then it raised back up to 100%. but, the 'buffer level'(at the bottom) stayed at 32%(if i picked 4x speed, and 11% if i used 8x speed) it was 97%-99% when it's working. i tried to give it time(about a day) to let it raise back up, but it's not working. it just stays there. not that it's frozen or anything. so i have to cancel it.

please help me guys, i just don't know what's the problem. and i've already wasteed 4 dvd-r discs. or maybe a should switch it to another program?? or is it my burner's problem? oh and i'm using SONY DVD RW DW-D22A writer.

i know it's confusing but any help would be greatly apreciated
thanks in advance

Are you using Nero 6 Ultra or Nero 7 Ultra? Let's have the "very last section" from your Nero logs. To get your log go here; C:\Program Files\Ahead\Nero\NeroHistory for Nero 6, or C:\Program Files\Nero\Nero 7\Core\NeroHistory for Nero 7. Now remember to "delete" or "edit" your Nero serial before you're going to post back here.

Below is an example from a successful burned log of mine.

@hakuron

Your log look pretty clean, except 2 things needed to change.
Quote:
Nero version: 6.3.1.6 (Nero Express)
You need to update to the latest of Nero 6.6.0.18 (it is arguably one of the best version ever from Nero).
Quote:
Media type: DVD-R
Disc Manufacturer: TTG02 -
Disc Application Code: 64
I didn't mean to diss TDK, but I think TDK is not on par with high quality media like Taiyo Yuden, Verbatim "advanced azo/datalife plus" and Maxell (mij by Hitachi), these are top notch, so maybe you need to try them, if possible.

I'm wondering why did you aborted the process?

Other than that, your log is pretty clean, plus your Sony's firmware is up-to-date with the most current firmware. So try to update your Nero to the latest and try better media as mentioned above.

@hakuron

The only FUJI media I recommend for you to get is their 8X "made in japan", that is authentic TAIYO YUDEN media right there, other than that DON'T get any if it's NOT "made in japan". *NOTE: extremely important here: DON'T GET MEMOREX ever, period. They're one of the worst media, it has one of the cheapest/crap dye, which will most likely make you creat "coasters" only.

My 3 top choices of media are:

<> Taiyo Yuden
<> Verbatim "advanced azo" or "datalife plus"
<> Maxell (made in Japan by Hitachi Corp.)

These are high quality media you'll ever find in the market now-a-days. I've been burning dvd movies and PS2 games for a long times now, those are the only media I've used and I've never had any issues with Maxell, Taiyo or Verbs whatsoever. So far all of my burnings are flawless. By the way, if you want to know more about "high quality" vs "crap/low quality" scans, then go here http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/262544 - I recommend you to take a tour through and you'll be amazed how bad those MEMOREX aka CMC MAG is(are) on the scanned results.

Good luck!!

ok thanks alkolhol for your help. but i just wanted to ask u one last question. i know i'm starting to get annoying, but i'm still a newbie at this. anyway what speed should i use to burn dvds and cds?

and by the way, i saw SONY dvd are on sale. are they any good? people keep on saying that i should buy dvd-r instead of dvd+r. they say it's better or something. but i really don't know why?? and is it true that you should have a certain amount of disk space before you burn for it to be successful? oh and about the part that i was stopping the burning process is because it's not moving at all.

thank you very much
much appreciated.

hakuron, *** (edited) I believe if you go with the sony (made in Japan only) they could be TY's ???*** Personally I've had excellent luck with the TYG02 coded media, and know quite a few others that have. But as Alkohol stated, they aren't TY's or Verb's which are the the top of the line. I would however try the upgrade first before you trash the media. You can find it here:

http://www.nero.com/nero6/enu/Updates.html

Since you're having problems, I would try burning at the lowest possible speed you can until you get your first good burn. Than you can raise it. I stay at maximum 4X when burning. That's my preference, however others will burn at much higher speeds.

As to whether to use +/-R, it's going to depend more on your DVD player that you plan on using it on. Most newer players will play either or, however there are always exceptions. To see which one yours will play, you can check it out here:

http://www.videohelp.com/dvdplayers

The only other things I have heard is with +R you may have to booktype? And some of the PS2 threads said that +R wouldn't work with earlier versions of the PS2. I primarily use -R, but have a dvd recorder that will only record in +R. So I've recently been using both. Haven't noticed any difference in the two. I'm going to say that as long as it's quality, you should be okay either way you go. However others will argue one or the other is better. Also since I print on my disc and prefer inkjet hub printable. There is a comparable price difference so I have stuck with the -R. Now after reading various threads I have been thinking about trying some +R hub printables, just have to find them at a reasonable price.

I know you were asking Alkohol, and he is by far more knowledgable than me. Just throwing in my two cent's.

thanks betline. it sounds like your an expert too. ^^ just one last question. is there a difference between dvd-r that are made in japan and taiwan? cause the guy at the store told me that they are the same, but u and alkolhol both said that specifically that it has to be made in japan. by the way, i'm talking about fuji.

thanks in advance ^^

p.s thanks for the upgrade link. i'm using nero ultra 7 now.

@hakuron

That guy at the store is an idiot, he doesn't know what he's talking about. All genuine Taiyo Yuden is "made in Japan" (including the FUJI, SONY and any of the -R/+R Taiyo Yuden, and of course most likely any FUJI or SONY "made in japan" is authentic YUDEN media). If you get the FUJI or SONY "made in Taiwan" or else, then those are NOT Taiyo Yuden media.

Same thing apply to Maxell, I highly recommend Hitachi's High Grade Maxell 8X DVD+R "made in Japan", this is one of the highest quality media ever produced by Hitachi. It is on par with top notch media like Taiyo Yuden and Verbatim.

On the ther hand, if you're going to get Verbatim media, then it's OK to be "made in Taiwan" because all Verbatim's single layer (DVD-R and DVD+R) is made from Taiwan mainly, except Verbatim's DVD+R DL media is "made in Singapore".

In conclusion, if you're going to get any TAIYO YUDEN, SONY, FUJI or MAXELL, then make sure it says "Made In Japan" on the box or spindle.

wow, thanks alkolhol. once again u saved my butt. luckily i only bought 5 of those DVD-R fuji that are made in taiwan. cause i didn't really trust that guy either after all the new expert info i got from u and beltline.

well what about disk space? is it true that you should have a certain amount of disk space before you burn for it to be more likely to be successful? and is Taiyo Yuden a rare brand? cause i can't find it at my local stores. btw i'm at vancouver canada.

thanks a whole lot ^^

If I understand you correctly, you mean the space on the disc (DVD+R or DVD-R) right?

I customize mine to 4400MB, any high quality media should be able to handle that easily. I've been burning with 4400MB using Taiyo Yuden, Verbatim and Maxell (mij by Hitachi), so far all of my backups plays flawlessly, no "coasters" whatsoever.

Any FUJI 8X DVD+R "Made In Japan" is TAIYO YUDEN
Any SONY 8X DVD+R "Made In Japan" is TAIYO YUDEN

If you can't find any genuine YUDEN media, then you should be find with Verbatim or Maxell (made in Japan by Hitachi) if you can find any of them. Keep us posted.

Live and learn. Good luck on your future burning!!

umm, actually i meant the disk space in my computer. cause i heard some people said that you should leave a certain amount of space in your hard drive before burning anything or it won't be sucessful. but thanks for that extra tip though. sorry for the confusion. i should of said it clearer. and what do u mean by backups?

thanks

When alcohol said "backups" he's refering to what he has burned. Hence, you are trying to "backup" your anime collection.

TY's aren't that easily found in retail outlets. You have to try to identify them as alkohol stated or buy them online most the time. I would look for the verbatims to just get yourself going. They're easily found. However with what you have now, I really think you can at least get a burn with those TDK's.

If you already have the ISO/FOLDER burned, than I know I have burned with only 300mb available. Not sure what the minimum requirement is. If you're having issues with Nero burning and you already have an ISO image. Why not give dvddecryptor a try. It's free.

thanks for all your help guys!!! now i can burn dvd iso !!! lol

i'm planning to try to burn dvd movies too but i don't know how to burn it with substitles. substitles is a different file. so i don't know how u combine them together. and once i tried to burn a cd-video but when i play it on my dvd player, the movie itself got enlarged. so a bit of top, bottom, right and left got cut off. so i can't really see teh substitles cause it cut half of it. i think it's the resolution problem. will it have the same problem for dvd? and is it better if i close any other programs when i burn stuff??

thanks again. i owe guys lots^^

I believe if you have the updated nero, you should be able to take care of this issue. However, I just recently started using Nero. If you look in alkohol signature you'll see various guides on using Nero. Also, you may want to post this latest problem in the Nero forum to see if some of the Nero experts can assist.

Whenever you're analyzing, encoding, burning, etc. step away from the computer. Try not to do anything else if you want a good burn. At least that's what I do, and I believe most would agree.

Glad to see you got a burn.
