I occassionally get a message from Nero Burning ROM V6 that there is a relocation error and that If I continue the resultant disc may not be playable.

Does anybody know what is the reason for this message?

I searched here, Nero FAQs, and the WEB in general but nothing specific or helpful.

Thanks in advance

hi, you're basically doing something wrong in the ripping stage or it's missing some files, ie Nero is simply warning that it's not happy with the files, here's examples of the errors you are talking about -
Quote:
VOB file is not referenced and should not be present

DVD video files reallocation failed

DVD video files compliance ignored
Quote:
Required file 'VIDEO_TS.IFO' is not present

Required file 'VIDEO_TS.BUP' is not present

Required file 'VTS_01_0.BUP' is not present

DVD-Video files compliance test failed

DVD-Video files compliance ignored

Thanks Creaky. I use the same method always in ripping. DVD Decryptor and AnyDVD. Then DVDShrink if I need to compress. Mostly I use Nero to burn but sometimes I burn with DVDShrink.

The error message is "DVD video files reallocation failed ". It is mostly older DVDs that I seem to get the problem with.

If I just copy to another folder with DVDShrink I get rid of the warning message. And copying with DVDShrink has eliminated play back errors too.

Does this suggest anything more to you?

I can live with this problem but I want to extend my understanding if I can.

Thanks again.

ah i see. i'm no Decrypter expert (as i rarely ever have to use it even though it's a fantastic program) but it sounds like you need to perform another step before burning. the way i get around those errors is to use vobblanker and simply point vobblanker to the directory where decrypter dropped it's files and (doing nothing special in vobblanker) simply click on 'process all' and it'll scoot thru the movie files. then just burn from there. I myself use DVD Shrink for virtually every single movie i do, whether i use DVDFab Decrypter/DVD Decrypter to grab the entire disc/movie files to hard disc beforehand, then i always use DVD Shrink from there as i do movie only for all my films. hence why i rarely see these errors i guess. but that's all that's needed

The reason it is on older dvds as you said is because they are the ones that dont need compressed. That tells me you most likely have dvddecrypter set to movie only. If so then when it rips it just gets the VOB set of files and the vobsets ifo file. That leaves out 2 key files needed to be compliant. They are the actual video_ts.ifo and video_ts.bup. When you run it through shrink or vobblanker or whatever all it needs is the ifo for the set of vobs to make the dvd files but after it makes the files if you look at them it has made the video_ts ifo and bup.
