Createing chapter displays incorrect picture

I startup NVE (Version 3.1.0.21) and select ?Open Saved Project or Disc Image?, I have copied my home movies to HDD then edited the .VOB files using NVE and saved the project to disk. Now I select the .NVC file that contains my edited movies and open it.
I now have a single Video Title that is 1h 55m 05s in length. My next task is to ?Create Chapters?, after clicking the NEXT button there is now a single chapter, Chapter 1, the very beginning of my movie. I now slide the position marker 13m 21.80s into the movie, and click the Add Chapter button. A chapter is added to the chapter list window pane and it contains the correct video clip that corresponds with the movie.
At this point, with only 2 chapters, I select the NEXT button and that takes me back to the Content page. Again I select NEXT, and am taken to the Select Menu page. I now have the 2 chapters shown on the left side of the screen and on the right are the menu templates to choose.
My problem is now the 2 chapters shown on the left have the same identical video clip displayed from the beginning of the movie, chapter 2 does not contain the clip that was shown when I created the chapter.
Advancing forward to the Preview page (examine the results of your project before burning it.), the 2 chapters are shown with the same video clip. Selecting chapter-2 starts showing the movie from the correct point in time.
Can someone tell me why the video clip at 13+m into the file won?t display correctly in the chapter list?

After setting the chapters then clicking the next button 2 times to get to the preview window. Are you doing the 2 clicks of next fast. If so you may not have givin it time to realize you have another clip for the 2nd chapter button and thinking you selected the same frame for the button. Try slowing down if that is the case. If it is not just go back to the menu edit part and adit the buttons properties to set it to the frame you want it to show for the button.

I have had the same problem. I wrote Nero. They say that this will be fixed in the next update. Don't hold your breath. :-) It would seem that by now, all things as basic as this would be fixed. I guess not.

You're not alone...happens constantly here too. It also occurs if using a custom picture. As you noted, the clip will start from the correct point but with the wrong thumbnail. I've had somewhat better luck with pre-encoded files, but it doesn't fix it. Also, I've noticed that the second chapter thumbnail is 1~3 frames ahead of the original. Hard to notice without visible timecode on your clip. It's called a bug ;-)
To Whompus, NVE gets confused regardless of click speed. Also, Anchulis only has one video clip:

I've tested this repeatedly with large and small videos (<2 minutes) with no difference. Thought it might be an out-of-memory issue, but with a gig of RAM, and looking at Task Manager, nope. Just one of those annoying bits that seem to come up with the 'extras' Nero comes with. Still love Burning Rom though :-) I'm still evaluating the trial version of DVD-lab Pro...it does just about everything well and I believe I'll be getting that.

Same problem... Thought I was going nuts, I would correct the chapters so that they looked correct and save and exit. After coming back later the chapter pictures would be wrong again! Thought I was doing something wrong. Using NVE 3, latest version. Any update on when this BUG will be corrected?

As I said, don't hold your breath. Version 7 doesn't have this problem but it won't let you edit the second page of a menu. The navigation buttons are grayed out. However, if you edit something on the first page, the buttons become active. They said that this would be fixed in the next update. Of course that will break something else. Every version of Nero has something wrong. As I said to them, it would be nice to have ONE working version.

Not crazy ;-) I get the feeling from reading this forum a fair amount, that many either use the auto chapter thing or use seperate videos as 'chapters'. I finally bought DVD-lab Pro, which ain't cheap, but it does anything I want and more :-) There are other, less expensive options out there too.
I see another post reports *this* problem fixed in 7.x, only to add another one which sounds equally annoying. Hmmm, maybe not equally, that chapter change bit also costs money if it *looks* right before you burn, then goes Ahead <g> and changes during the burn.

I also said to them that they seem unable to provide a working program. Not a good way to win friends I suppose. Of course, seeming to be inept at creating working software doesn't win a lot of friends either. :-)

Anyone try the new updates of 6.6 at Nero? Did it fix our chapter and menu button problem? I'm using a demo version of 7 so if the update for 6.6 us fixed I would like to go back. Let me know please as it would be a lot of effort to go back to 6.6 only to find that the problem is not fixed.

Good news/bad news. After installing the first 2 update packages, I put 17 chapters in an 8 minute uncompressed .AVI. That worked fine, including changing the menu bkgrnd. and changing chapter labels to just text. I then edited a chapter on the second menu page (5 menu pages, pages 1-4 with 4 chapters each, page 5 with 1). That caused that chapters' pic to change. I deleted the chapter, put a new one in at the same spot, no problem. Burned to HD, played fine on the burning box, burned a DVD, that also played fine on the burn box and the laptop.
The bad news...The first burn (4x, 2-pass) played on the JVC stand-alone from the menu thumbs BUT the back/forward menu page navigation buttons weren't available (the nav buttons were always visible though). To get to the next/previous menu page I needed to manually enter a chapter number. At that point the back/forward buttons became available, but as soon as I went to say menu page 4, once I arrowed around the the chapter thumbs, the only selectable items were the chapter thumbs again. Also, on the stand-alone, the display didn't indicate any chapters.
I double checked my settings and noticed that "Enable Forward and Backward jump during playback" was checked in the 'More' section of the Burn Options page. For grins, I unchecked that and did a 1-pass 4x burn. Same problem with the nav buttons, but the stand-alone did show the chapter numbers. Go figger. Last thing I did was import the .VOB into DVD-lab Pro, put in some chapters, burned with the updated Nero, no problems. A note for those that use the MD5 hash...package 1 is ok using the ftp dnld, package 2 is ok using the http dnld. Or maybe that's the other way around, you'd think Ahead would put the right hash for the right file (note that the checksums are different if getting the Yahoo toolbar).

Boy do I feel stupid! Before I got your response, I uninstalled 7, cleaned the registry thouroughly and installed the new 6.6. Did a quick check and everything seemed alright. I only had one item on the main menu and chapters for that. Everything seemed alright so I destroyed my 7 downloads. 7 almost works right by the way, the only problem being accessing the later pages of menues for editing. you get around that by editing the first page and then the navigation buttons become active. Works fine then. Works fine on standalones. Anyway, I will have to download 7 again and go back to where I was. I have not had a working version of this program since I payed for it. I even uninstalled the original version figuring that I would wait until they get the bugs out. A year later, I am still waiting. They should outsource their programming to the gorillas at a zoo. We'd get further! Back to 7!

Lol, maybe so. Good tip on how to fix things in 7.x. Myself, DVD-lab, though a fairly steep learning curve, just does the job, first time, everytime, I've just scratched the surface. I'll still use Nero to burn though.
One thing I've noticed...when I import a .vob made with NVE 3.x into DVD-lab, it *always* reports that there are open GOP's (Group of Pictures for those lurking). D-lab specifically mentions that chapter accuracy may be affected. An excellent resource for info on this may be found here:
