I'm going nuts here... I had a PS2 that I used for swapping, and it worked beautifully... until it broke. So, I bought a new one. This one I'm not sure the version, but it's a SCPH-30001 (no R) and it has 10 screws on the bottom, which I've never seen before. Anyhow, I use Swap Disk 2.0 and it loads the games, but EVERYTHING loads super slow. I tried re-callibrating the laser with the white dial (bad idea?), but even at the best loading speeds, everything is still so slow that audio comes in and out, etc. I also tried cleaning the lens. Games that worked perfectly on the old PS2 I used to have now run super slow on this one, so it doesn't seem to be a media problem. Currently, I have been wanting to play Dragon Quest VIII and just can't get it to run fast enough so that it's playable. If anyone can offer suggestions, I would be SOOO eternally greatful!! THANKS!

You now have a version 1-3, which requires high quality DVD-R media. You could also try cleaning the laser.

Could you please explain what high-quality media refers to? I am currently using Philips 8x media... and, clean the laser using what? I tried using a Q-tip and alcohol, but that didn't seem to change anything. Thanks!

But that's exactly what I have been using, as decribed above--I'm using Philips DVD-R media and it's not working. Any other suggestions? This whole thing makes no sense...

The ps2 you have is probably 4 years old, so the laser might be just getting weak. How fast did you burn at?

Burned at 1x using DVD Decrypter. Tried Alcohol 120% as well, same speed. The PS2 runs my storebought games fine... so I'm hoping it's not a broken laser.

BY THE WAY! Does it matter that I'm using Swap Magic 2.0 and not the newest version?

You shouldn't need a new disc, it worked fine on your other ps2 didn't (i use 2.0)?
As for the link 2pac gave you:
"Copy of your ID Card/Driving License/ Passport" Are you kidding me? Linker4u is a scam site and has ripped off many people here.

I am greatful for your help. But, according to you, I have been doing everything right: HQ media, burned at 1x, cleaned the lens, etc. So, I still don't see what to do, because these games are still running slow! Am I screwed?

Dude what is wrong with you if someone offered you the new version absolutley free then I would cash in on it. I know I probaly only 16 but come on I'm not the open minded. V2.0 don't work with everything you know. Have you tried playing your backup DVD movies with it. Did they play, probaly not.

Tried the cd loader, didn't work. So, I guess it can only be one of a few things: 1.) The laser's dying.. tho it would seem that isn't the case since it loads retails games fine; or 2.) Philips DVD-R media ISN'T acceptable... what else? I'm at a loss... and I'm angry. I could have beat the damn game by now! haha

Nothing is free. I've read many posts of people getting ripped off from that site and if you don't have your receipt, they want a copy of your drivers licence or passport. This is very supicious because most people don't keep their receipt, I think they are trying to run a identity theft scam.
And doc, burnt games require a lot more work to read than original games, so you cant rule out a weak laser.

And to respond to 2IIPac: the games LOAD and RUN, but just VERY slow. Like, it takes about 30 seconds to load between scenes in Dragon Quest VIII when it takes 1-2 seconds in the retail version. Trust me, I checked.

Yeah well I guess everyone ain't like me but I suggest that everyone keep important files like these. I don't know if the site is a scam or not but that is a good deal. Or they should just check the return policy from where they brought it from. Hey thanks for letting me know this though.
Have you ever tried Special Booting it by pressing square. It did this a couple of times because it took forever to load Battlefield 2 adn then it seemed to work sometimes. Like when I played online the music would repeat or go in and out so I know how fustrated you are and sort of what you may be going through. But sure that your backup disc is clean. I put D-Skins on my Swap Magic DVD disc.

The Swap Disk 2.0 I use doesn't seem to have a special boot. I tried that special boot thing using a CD Loader, but no use. I'm gonna try getting some compressed air and some new media tomorrow. If that doesn't work, I'm pretty much out of ideas. I'll just have to sell this PS2 to someone who doesn't play backups.

sly_61019 : Thanks, I figured it out, and it's much simpler than we thought! Philips media is NOT high quality enough for these older PS2 models. I bought a spindel of Sony DVD-R media and it worked, perfectly. So, now we know... and we're all a bit wiser!
