Hi! I am new to these forums and I have found them to be a tremendous help for all of my CD/DVD burning needs, be it movies, PS2 game backups, whatever.

First I must say before I came here I was a total newbie to this. I thought it would be better to read the amazing amount of help guides available on these forums so I don't wind up posting and asking for something that has already been asked. I have learned alot over the past couple of days, and am ready to start backing up my PS2 collection and DVD movie collection. I expect this to take awhile. lol

Ok I do have one question as the title of this post said.. but it's a good one.

What is the *most* important thing to know when you are backing up/creating a PS2 DVD?

I am curious as to all of your answers!

Ok now I have one request. I would like people in the know to tell me if I bought a good multi format burner.
I bought the Sony DRX-810UL It's a USB2.0 External writer, because I have no open bay in my computer to put an internal drive.

So what are your opinions on this burner? Did I buy a nice one, or did I get a bad one?

Ok thanks to *everyone* who takes the time out to answer the question and to read this post!

Talk to you later!

The most important thing is to use high quality media (taiyo uden is said to be the best). I'd say 50-75% of the threads I have read on ps2 problems are solved by using better media (or could be solved if the poster would just listen).

And, that burner should be fine.

V9 PS2, flip top, SMD, DVDLoader
Pioneer 107, ritek g05
DVD Shrink, DVD Decrypter, Nero

Yes quality media is always the number one factor in backing up games but small things like the size of the TOC could play a major part in getting the game to work correctly, well if your using swap magic it is but you can normally tell right away by the size of the game if there will be problems and wither or not you have to rebuild. The question i always ask (myself) is "what size is the game?" (if its 4.35gb+ then you have a problem) then pray its not DVD9 as they can be a pain to backup properly.

aye aye man

I second both sly & p4, Yes.... the most important part is the media. So make sure you always used high quality media. My 3 top choices of top notch media are:

<> Taiyo Yuden
<> Verbatim "advanced azo/datalife plus"
<> Maxell (mij by Hitachi)

In addition, make sure you don't burn way too slow (1X) or too fast (12X), the best is 4X (arguably the best and most recommended speed for burning PS2 games).

WARNING: Do not "update/upgrade" your SAMSUNG BD-D5XXX series (Bluray Player), or else you cant enjoy any of your movie files.

Thank you for all of your replies!

I will be buying some Taiyo Yuden DVD's tomorrow! I read around and I found out that some of the blank DVD's I bought to tackle this job are bad. For example I bought ( don't laugh at me ! lol ) some Dual Layer Memorex. ( gulp )

Before I came to this site I had no clue that there were quality levels with CD's and DVD's. They all looked the same to be, save for the fact some have different colors on the bottom.

I have another erhm.. related question. It's sorta a silly question.

Why do blank CD's and DVD's smell so BAD? It's a horrible smell...

Ok talk to you guys later!
