A helluva lot of variables- Burner, firmware, etc...

If I had to guess, I'd say, "8X yuden or Verbs burned at 8X on any of the previous two released models of burners with the latest firmware from BenQ, Pioneer, NEC, or LG on a clean, up-to-spec system with defragmented HD and no multitasking in 'movie only' mode with no compression on single layer media booktyped to DVD-ROM or on DL media booktyped to DVD-ROM."

Dropbox: http://db.tt/p5P9bH1d
System 1: Core2Quad Q6600 O/Ced @ 3.15 GHz, Gigabyte GA EP35 DS4 mobo, Zalman 9700, 4GB PC6400 RAM, Sapphire Radeon 2600HD Pro, Samsung 920BW 19" Widescreen LCD, Hauppauge! PVR-350.
System 2: Core2Duo E6400 O/Ced @ 3.2 GHz, Gigabyte GA 965P S3 mobo, Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro, 2GB PC6400 RAM, PNY GeForce 6600, Hyundai B70A 17" LCD.

Starrift

The answer is No.
The answer is Yes.
The answer is 8x.
The answer is 4x.

In other words, it depends on the media you purchase and use along with the firmware of your burner accepting that media, which translates to purchase the best media and a good burner and you won't have to worry... (much!) <G>

teflonmyk and ScubaBud nailed it. Variables. What may be good for me may not be good for you. Nothing etched in stone.

Cheers.

don't forget........ no multi-tasking, i'd even suggest to disable your anti-virus and firewall (just so they don't run at a schedualed time and use some cpu), heck, even disconnect from the net (in on broadband) this will help ensure no extra cpu usage starts up. close all un necessary programs too.......

hope my 2 cents helps some !!

Starrift, you got good answers here. Too many things can affect the quality of your burns. I'll try to put them in order.
1. Good burner with the right firmware.
2. The right media your burner can handle, these days usually TY and Verbs will not fail you.
3. A good pc up to specs that is able to handle the task.
4. The right burning engine.
That's about it. As you see I didn't mention burning speed. the reason is that you can have a god or bad burn at any speed. I had bad burns at slow speed also had 100% quality score at 16x :)
But it comes down mostly to quality media.

One little thing I learned on mine, when it's burn time I disable any DVD esp with Nero.

I never have to disable AnyDVD when I burn, and I use AnyDVD along with Nero Recode2 for all burms.

Hey Scuba, not arguing with you since yours and Alkohol's guides are what I learned and expanded on. But I've found on mine with any DVD running during the burn I lose a bit of quality especially on DL's. At the same time I'd like to thank you and every body else on AD that have given there time and knowledge to help people like me along. Thank's much! Chris

Those guides are from ScubaPete not me, I'm ScubaBud!

I am sure that everyone?s setup is different and software can conflict with other software. But in general I think you will find that most here don't have a problem with leaving AnyDVD running in the background. :)

ScubaBud,Thanks for letting me know, cause I thought that I had offended you and that wasn't even my intention. I do find for some reason in my set up that for whatever reason when I shut off any DVD I get a better burn and DLS a smoother layer break using Nero. Anyways I like to see what comes up in the forums. Then we got Gear 79, what a pleasure! Ya all have a good one and happy burnin! Chris
