Hi all

I'm using Exact Audio Copy to shell out to 'lame.exe 3.97 beta 1' to create MP3s from my CD collection.

The following options are set in EAC:

command line options: --alt-preset standard
Bit rate: variable bit rate 192 kbit/s
high quality: yes

I want to use Exact Audio Copy to shell to Lame and create mp3s with a variable bit of 192kbit/s but with a max bitrate of 256kbit/s. When I watch lame create the mp3's it seems to have some frames which are in the 320kbit/s range.

The whole point of this post is that my mp3 player supports a max of 256kbit/s VBR so I don't want lame to create a file that exceeds 256kbit/s.

Would one of you experts let me know which settings I should use?

Also, is this the best version of Lame to use?

Thanks

Pete

3.97 is the newest version of Lame. The audiophreaks over at hydrogen audio recommend this version over 3.90. SO bascially it's the best version to use.

As for not getting frames more than 256 kBps are you sure your MP3 player can't go beyond that. Because an MP3 file can go up to 320 kBps and I would of thought all players would allow this. In the latest version of EAC there is an option which let's you tell EAC the maximum bit rate you want for each file.

Thanks for help.

I'm now using lame.exe 3.97 beta 2. Found the option for limiting bitrate to 256kbps but still not sure whether to limit to 256kbps or not. I created a couple of tracks using the 'insane preset' which I think encodes at 320kbps and they seemed to play OK.
