How to output DVD video out DV (firewire) port

I have a thinkpad with a built-in DV/firewire port. I'd like to be able to send DVD-video out to that port. I could then watch movies that I've ripped by connecting the thinkpad to my Lite-On DV port (lvw-5005) which is in-turn connnected to a TV.

I tried Nero Showtime with no success. Does anyone have an alternate solution? Anyone know of another player app which can do this?
