for some odd reason... the phone said Phone restriction On.
then went back to a "insert smart chip" screen.

You can try this code but most likely this is one of those that was made on a bad week. We have noticed some dating problems with 6102's and 6101's. If this code doesn't work, it's not going to unlock with a code at all even if the code come from Nokia.

if you try the code more than 5 times, it hardlocked the phone, the only solution after that is to unlock by cable.

Press #
Press * 3 times fast for (p)
Press * 4 times fast for (w)
Press * 2 times fast for (+)
Verify code before pressing the last #.
If it still says Restriction on after you have entered the code, then the code is incorrect.
If it says Restriction Off, then the phone is unlocked.

i did get a new phone issued from cingular wireless. maybe a new code will help me out.

here's the IMEI number:
