hi..

i've experienced alot of trouble recently when trying to back up my DVD's.. i'm using the following equipment: Compaq Presario 2100 Notebook, 512mb RAM, 40Gb HDD, Toshiba SD-R6252 DVD+R/RW, Firmware v1A14, 2MB Buffer, Nero v6.6.0.18, DVD Shrink v3.2, Rytek DVD+R's.

For a long time i didn't experience any trouble (a little at the start till i found a media that the burner seemed happy with), but now it refuses to burn ANY DVD!! CD's are fine but it will not burn DVD's..

I was using Nero v6.0 and old firmware but after reading a few posts on here i upgraded them to the current versions (even tried the trial of Nero 7 but it just seemed to suck the life out of my system) and as Nero Info Tool was reporting 'n/a' for 2 of my systems ASPI files i used Force ASPI to correct that, then thinking that maybe the DVD burner had packed in i even resorted to trying a new burner (same type and model), but still no success...

so i'm at my wits end!

i've attached the error report from my last attempt to burn using the original DVD Burner..
any help would be graciously recieved!!

thanx
Tom

well your log looks pretty good but these two

Last possible write address on media: 2295103 (510:01.28, 4482MB)
Last address to be written: 2286111 (508:01.36, 4465MB)

set your target size to 4300 or 4350 in dvdshrink or other program

Sense Key: 0x03 (KEY_MEDIUM_ERROR)

22:33:17 #24 CDR -1135 File Writer.cpp, Line 311
Write error

you should try different media, quality media is a must, good choices are verbatim and taiyo yuden

peace

Thanx for your suggestions..

i have always used the same size setting in DVD Shrink and the burning process isn't even getting close to the edge of the disc.. usually only 30%-50% but i'll decrease the size a little just in case..

as for the media i had always been told that DVD's using Ritek dye are one of the best around and like i say i've used these discs MANY times before (over 100 successful burns).. is it possible that i have been sold fake discs?? there is no branding on the DVD's as they are inkjet printables except for a long number around the centre hole.. these are different for every disc eg V1-02CH1507028876B19 so i assume they are just a serial number used by the production company?? once again here is a link for the product that i bought..

DVD+R-Full-Face-PRINTABLE-8x-pack-of-50-pr-17672.html" class="korostus" target="_blank">http://www.ukdvdr.co.uk/shop/Ritek-DVD+R-Full-Face-PRINTABLE-8x-p...

i dug out some old Datasafe 4x DVD+R's and successfully burned 2 of them tonight! these were the discs i used before switching to the printable versions but had to give up on, as i DETEST sticky labels..

any more help on this matter from anyone would be GREATLY appreciated!!

thanx
tom

the reason i suggested to decrease the target size, and change media is your firmware is up to date but it was last updated in december of 2004. i have also read people like ritek but your burner seems not to.

go here to check firmware - http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?download_id=1902

Media can make the difference.

Some ppl love Ritek, but i have seen many logs of failed burns with Ritek right in the middle of it. This media seems to either work great, or fail miserably. Try some GOOD media like Verbs, Sony, Fuji, Maxell, last 3 made in japan to eliminate media as being the offender. Although your Datasafe seems to have pointed out Ritek being bad for you in this case.
