If you port forward aren't you basically bypasses all your security settings and putting your computer on the net protection free? Or am I completly wrong? I just read how to do it and the way I understood it is your defenseless.

Yes....you are defenseless but ONLY on that one port. Further, if you wish you can change what port you use on a regular basis if you have people trying to hack in all the time. :)

Further to note is that your router is one of the best firewalls there is: a hardware firewall. So although your software firewall may be down, your hardware one is up and it takes all the brunt :)
