i jusr tried backing up a ps2 game onto an imation dvd (having been told to try better media)and then trying to play it using swapmagic 3 and it still keeps saying that i need to insert a valid ps2 disc.........what now?

Imation is one of the brands you should stay away from, just like Memorex... Try getting Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim dvd's. (don't come up with the "but those are expensive" type remarks, you need quality media to burn backups on)
It could also mean you're not swapping it the right way, or if you have a slim ps2, it could mean the tools aren't properly placed.
Also, what game are you trying to backup? maybe it needs to be rebuilt before you can use it with swapmagic.

no-one said anything about the price of the media, imation are a good quality cd. i was trying to backup killzone & what do you mean by rebuilding the game?

I'd say use the forum's search function on rebuilding games, should give you all the info you need.
Killzone will probably need to be rebuilt *i seem to remember some thread about it not working on swapmagic without rebuilding*

i don't know what type of ps2 you have but it is a good idea to check the tools in the ps2 first before you go and waste more money buying media. take the tools out and put them in again in good sunlight with tweezers and put them in firmly this time and try the burned game again.
