I've been skimming the forums for a bit, and I've noticed a certain trend so far.

Most people that have a problem, simply need to open up ports on their router, and/or disable their firewall, and voila, problem solved.

For me, the problem is much more entangled.

My current setup is a DSL connection. However, it is unique in that it is provided from an ISP, *TO* my apartment complex company.

So the DSL is free with the apartment, there are plugs directly in the wall for each bedroom of my apartment.

From there, I have a Linksys router which I hvae updated the firmware in, opened the ports on (6881-6889), and disable the firewall for WinXP Pro. I don't have norton or any other firewall software.

When I went to a site to find out my IP address, it is much different than I expected. Whatismyip.com shows a static IP, but it has nothing to do with my router's internal network.

So the question I pose to you is this, what, if anything, can I do to increase my up and download speeds? I am at a loss, after doing everything that I have seen work for others so far.
