My sony burner from dell will no longer recognize burned dvds or blank media

I have burned many dvds with shrink/ decrypt) over a long time and had no problems. All of a sudden I can no longer burn dvds b/c the blank media is not recognized. I also come to find out that the player no longer recognizes any burned dvds as well!!

Heres some extra info and things I have tried:
1) I am using verbatim media (and tried others as well) so this is not the problem
2) tried reinstalling the drive, didnt work
3) tried updating the firmware, didnt work
4) tried uninstalling all dvd burning programs, didnt work
5) tried resinstalling aspi, which is now working properly, didnt fix the problem
6) tried a system restore, but did nothing (i installed no new programs between when it worked and when it died)

The player can still read cd roms and burn cd roms, and therefore dell tells me this is not a harware issue (which im starting not believe

Please help me!!!!!
