Problem with editing a WAV file

Well i recorded my voice using a flash mp3 player and when i plugged my mp3 player inot the computer i dragged the WAVE file out onto the desktop and renamed it. The funny thing is that i can play the wave file on windows media player or itunes but i cannot edit it using a normal wave editor like acoustica or wave editor. It either says error or it just wont load and the program will freeze up. These program work with my mp3s but it weird? i just want to edit my wave file but like cutting out a few parts in it but is there a codec needed or something else needed??
