I was looking at the media thread trying to figure out what kind of DVD-R's to buy, and this part confused me:

1ST CLASS MEDIA
Almost flawless burns with 95-100% reliable results:
PVC = Pioneer (Japan) = (-R)(-RW) ... media is no longer made
MXLRG0x = Maxell (Japan) = (-R)(-RW)
YUDENT, TYG0x = Taiyo Yuden (Japan) = (-R)(+R)
MCC, MKM = Mitsubishi Chemicals (Singapore/Taiwan) = (-R)(-RW)(+R)(+RW)
TDK, TTG0x, TTH0x = TDK Corp (Taiwan/Japan) = (-R)(-RW)
SONY0xD = Sony (Japan/Taiwan) = (-R)(-RW)

my personal preference after trying all those above is taiyo yuden (YUDENT, TYG0x = Taiyo Yuden (Japan) = (+R)(-R))it's cheaper and burns with less PIF than verbatim and all those others for that matter. next is TDK, TTG0x, TTH0x = TDK Corp (Taiwan/Japan) = (-R). then MXLRG0x = Maxell (Japan) = (-R).

OK, what I want to know is what are these things: MXLRG0x, TYG0x, TTG0x, SONY0xD, ect.

Do They stand for a model type by the company because I'd much rather not order DVD-R's over the internet, and I see the same brand of DVD-R's at Best Buy that I can Pick Up at the store but I don't see any of those things that I dont understand what they mean.

That's the media ID.

91. Q. What is the Media ID of a DVD and how can I find it?
A.The Media ID of a DVD is the true measure of it's quality. It contains prerecorded info about the disc's manufacturer. The quality of the disc will vary depending on the media code. The media code isn't visible on the disc or the packaging. To check the media ID, Open DVD Decrypter, insert your disc, and check what it says under Media ID or Manufacturer ID. You can also use a program called DVD Identifier which is very useful. You can find it here: http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/dvd_tools/dvd_id...
Last but not least you can use DVD Info Pro: http://www.dvdinfopro.com/
Compare the Media ID to this link: http://www.digitalfaq.com/media/dvdmedia.htm
