I am thinking about replacing my current intel Processor and Motherboard for an AMD one, two questions; firstly, is it difficult to replace a motherboard and proccessor? and my second question can someone refer me to the best AMD Motherboard and Processor please? Can i also ask what processors people are using?
http://froogle.google.co.uk/froogle_cluster?q=intel+pentium+4+3.6...
This is mine (I think) i'm at college so can't check 100% what i have,
also do people think i even need to get a new processor and motherboard??

it is relatively easy to replace a Motherboard and CPU but id get familiar with the process before attempting it with brand new parts.

basically all it involves is removing any graphics cards or other cards that are plugged into your motherboard and then unscrewing the motherboard itself from the casing of your pc. you dont actually need to remove the processor from the board.

however id say that if that processor is the one you have there isnt much need to swap everything out as a P4 3.6 is quite a formidable processor.

why exactly is it that you feel you want to replace everything for AMD what do you want to use your computer for?

Studio Comp: AMD Athlon XP 3200+ OC ~ 2.35GHz runs at 40 celcius idle and 48 under stress (aerocool GT1000 really works!), Asrock K7VT4A , 1024MB Dual Channel DDR 400, MSI Nvidia FX5200 128MB OC ~ 600MHz mem 350MHz core,80GB SATA + 200GB SATA + 120GB IDE, 7.1 Channel Soundblaster Audigy 2 Platinum EX sound and midi interface. 19" Sony SDM-HS95 TFT monitor - sweeet
Comp2: AMD Sempron 2400+ OC ~ 2.0GHz (Stable), Asrock K7S41GX, 512MB DDR 333, Onboard Graphics, 40GB Maxtor IDE

set of monitors on the way soon :P

Mainly i want my PC for gaming, web development, and i use and play around with Macromedia software alot (i dont know if it matters what u have for macromedia software) nowadays, and the odd work now and then, and everyone i have spoken to says AMD is the best for all of the above, is you (SypherTek) dont think i need to replace my Intel for AMD, then i think i will just upgrade my RAM and my graphics card. Anything to add SypherTek, and others, all comments would be greatly appreciated!

if you already have a 3.6GHz processor then theres no need to change your mob and processor. what motherboard do you currently have? what graphics card do you have and how much memory have you got at the moment?

maybe we can help you with choosing a good new graphics card and memory
