I just bought Zyxel 660HW wireless adsl modem, and I'm having problems with it. Connection seems to disconnect every now and then for no reason, or connection speed is reduced from 54mbps to 1mbps (at that point there's no traffic at all, connection just doesn't work). I just can't figure out that why it keeps doing that. First my computer (sony vaio vgn-b3vp laptop with integrated wlan) in the livingroom corner, and the router was in the other side of the apartment in my bedroom. There was just a thin wall between them, and about 10 meters in distance. I'm downloading 3 torrents with plenty of seeds right now, and I can only download and upload maximum of 30kb/s although my adsl is 1mb/512kb. It was faster with wired version of the same modem (Zyxel 660H). Has someone encoutered same problems, and perhaps knows how to fix them? All help appreciated.

To verify that it isn't your wireless card in your laptop I would use an Ethernet cable directly to the modem and see what your speeds and up time are. Next keep your Laptop near the modem using it's internal wireless card and do the same thing. If it turns out to be a distance issue, then maybe time for a new wireless router.

It's pentium M, but I think it doesn't matter with this problem.

Thanks for the info. I tried keeping my laptop 1 meter away from the the modem and that didn't work. I'm starting to think that my laptop has some kind of a hidden power savign system, that disables wlan when the computer is not used (even if I'm downloading). Well I bought wlan adapter to my desktop pc too, so the problem might be figured out soon enough.

I just updated my 660HW-61 firmware to the newest V3.40(PE.10)C0 and I cannot use the wireless at all. WPA doesn't work, nor does it work when I disable all encryption, haven't yet tried with WEP. What F/W do you have?

The same firmware as you have. I contacted zyxel, and they told me that PE.9 firmware works better when using wlan.
