i have ripped a film (7.4 gb)using Smartripper - but it cannot be shrunk as DVDshrink 3.2 gives an error (in open FIles mode) :
Quote:
Invalid data in file VTS_01_7.VOB
. i then upgraded Nero to 6.6 ver, hoping it could burn the ripped file from my hard disk. However Nero expects a disc that will hold 7.4gb. my disc is 4.7gb. how can i split the film over 2 discs? any help greatly appreciated.

Since you successfully used smartripper to rip the files to the hard drive, this is most likely not a sony or microvision encryption issue.

Shrink will sometimes give this error when you try to open files that have been ripped by another program (such as what you did here).

You should:
1) First try and use shrink to rip the files and create your backup, if smartripper was able to do it so will shrink.

2) If you want to use the files you already have you'll need to use the nero recode application, start nero recode, import the dvd files(in the VIDEO_TS folder), remove all the stuff you don't want, make sure nero is set for a target size of 4.7 gb DVD-5(nero will shrink the files to fit on a DVD-/+R disk), then have nero save the file to the hard drive or burn directly to disk.

Here's a guide for nero recode...http://ww2.nero.com/nero6/enu/User_Guides_Recode_2.html

If you use nero recode and save the files to the hard drive, shrink should have no problem opening them, if you wish to use shrink.

Hi, I'm fairly new to this and have encounted some problems even my expert DVD burner friends can not figure out.
I have DVD Decrypter, DVD Shrink and Nero 6.6.
I decrypt the DVD fine, no problems.
Then Shrink it.. fine again, no probs.
When I come to burning it, I get an error message from Nero saying that the files are not right and it wont play in standard DVD players.
So then when I burn it, the files are on the DVD, I can put it into any PC and will open it up and there the files are... then I open one through windows media player and can view the movie. But it wont play on DVD players. Driving me nuts, have you ever heard of this problem before?
All the step by step guides I have followed religeously... but still getting this problem. No idea what to try next.

That's because you're not using nero to burn the files to DVD in the proper format so that the backup will be compatible with a set top player. You're more that likely burning just the VIDEO_TS folder to disk, for compatibility with set top player there must also be an empty AUDIO_TS folder present as well.

You need to nero's DVD-Video application

Here are two guides that should help...

http://www.dvdshrink.info/nero-video.php

Set nero to write at 4x.
