Hello,
I have Nero 6.6.0.1.8 Ultra. I am contemplating updating to Nero 7.0.1.4b. I have seen a lot of bad comments about Nero 7 and was wondering if it is better, or should I keep the older version. I have never used neither and I am just getting into dvd burning. I want to get anydvd and burn with Nero. Is this the way to go?
Thanks for your time.

If you already have Nero 6.6.0.18 and are happy with it then to save any further expense I would keep using it in preference to upgrading to Nero7. The version you have can do pretty much the same as 7.

Ok, thanks. Is this the best way to go (with AnyDVD and Nero)?
Will these 2 programs flawlessly copy most dvds?
Thanks again.

I would most definately recommend the purchase of AnyDVD, it will remove any encryptions. If you do not wish to spend any more $$$ then this is what I'd use.
You could also download a free version of DVDShrink which will allow you to fit slightly larger Movies onto a normal DVD5.
There's a guide on how to use them in my sig (by bbmayo)

Would I need to use dvdshrink in conjunction with AnyDVD and Nero, or would AnyDVD and Nero do suffice in copying and resizing movies?
(Please excuse the ignorance as I am new to this).
Thank you gwendolin;)

Does anyone know if I need dvdshrink with AnyDVD and Nero, do I only need AnyDVD and Nero to copy and resize?
Thanks

Unless the movie exceeds the limit of a standard DVD5 then you will not need to use DVD Shrink, Nero will handle that. You can also use NeroRecode to remove any unwanted material such as trailers etc.
When I back up a DVD all I use is AnyDVD (which runs in background) to remove any copy protection and then NeroRecode to edit where required and then just burn.
As you already have Nero all you neednow is AnyDVD.
@laidback, DVD Decrypter is an older prog that is no longer being updated,( even AD through legal reasons had to remove the DL site) and can not crack some of the newer encryptions whereas AnyDVD is constantly being updated.

One more question (I promise).
Do you burn right from recode, or do you go thru recode and then have to save and then open nero express.
Thanks again.
PS, do you have a link to dvdshrink?

Just continue in Recode until you come to Burn, click it and sit back and wait for your new copy. Cheers. Try it and if you hit any hurdles get back to us.

Ok, thank you very much. I edited my previous post so I don't know if you've seen it. Do you have a link to dvdshrink? I know it's free but I can't seem to find it. Just in case I decide to use it.
Thanks again for your help

@gwendolin
I am aware that DVDD is no longer being updated. Up to now I have not had any problems with the DVDs I have backed up (knock on wood). In addition, there are additional tools that can be used with DVDD to get around some of the newer protection features. But you are right, AnyDVD is constantly being updated.
@new2dvds
Copying a DVD involves basically 3 steps:
1. Rip the DVD - use Shrink, DVDD, AnyDVD, etc
2. Compress it to fit on a DVD5 - use Shrink or Nero Recode
3. Burn to DVD - use Shrink, Nero Burning, DVDD, ImgBurn, etc
Spend some time browsing this and other sites. Some of the posters such as gwendolyn have signatures with links to more information. When I first started, I just spent weeks reading. It's amazing how much information is out there, you just have to spend some time researching.

Yes, thanks. I have been reading for days, but I like getting feedback as to what are the best programs to use. It seems that there are so many and making the choice of what ones to use seems to be the hardest hurdle for me.
Thanks
